Mayweather Sr: Roach don’t want the master in Floyd Jr’s corner

mayweather sr2By Chris Williams: Trainer Floyd Mayweather Sr has figured out in his head why Manny Pacquiao’s trainer Freddie Roach is so down on him as a trainer. Floyd Sr thinks Roach doesn’t want him to be the one working the corner of Mayweather Jr on May 2nd against Pacquiao due to Floyd Sr being the expert, and Roach doesn’t want to have to deal with that.

“Freddie don’t want Floyd Mayweather Sr. in the corner because he knows I’m the master,” Floyd Sr said via Fighthype.com. “He don’t want the master in the corner.”

I think it’s quite possible that Floyd Sr is right about Roach not wanting him in the corner. Floyd Sr has the ability to turn Mayweather Jr into a defensive fighter on May 2nd, and that’s not something that would be good for Roach or Pacquiao.

They absolutely need Mayweather to come out there on May 2nd throwing bombs with Pacquiao, because that would at least give the 36-year-old Filipino star a chance to win the fight.

Against a defensive fighter guided by Floyd Sr, Pacquiao has little chance of winning the fight, because Mayweather will be making him miss all night long and making him look really bad in doing so.

If Mayweather comes out on the defensive mode when he gets in the ring on May 2nd, it’s going to be curtains for Pacquiao. He won’t be able to win this fight kind of fight, and he’s going to end up getting clowned for 12 rounds.

It is one thing getting beaten in front of 450,000 viewers on pay-per-view, but it’s quite another thing for Pacquiao to be seen getting totally dominated by Mayweather in front of 3 million viewers. That’s how many boxing fans that will potentially be watching the Mayweather-Pacquiao fight on PPV on HBO and Showtime if they price this thing right.

If Mayweather has his father Floyd Sr working his corner against Pacquiao then there’s no way he’s going to give Pacquiao any chances of landing his shots, because Floyd Sr will constantly be reminding him in between rounds to focus on his defense.

Mayweather was a completely different fighter when he had Roger Mayweather as his trainer because back then he was always looking to mix it up with his opponents rather than out-boxing him. But with Floyd Sr now controlling things in the corner, he doesn’t let Mayweather get sloppy with his defense like he had while having Roger running things.

Roach shouldn’t worry about who the trainer will be for Mayweather, because that’s something that is out of his power. The only thing that Roach can do is to train Pacquiao the best that he can at cutting off the ring and throwing as many shots as possible when he does have Mayweather in front of him. If Roach is thinking clearly, he’ll tell Pacquiao to stop with his in an out attacking style.

It’s simply become too predictable for it to be useful against fighter like Mayweather. Instead of attacking with an in an out style, Pacquiao needs to just jump on Mayweather and stay on him without giving any space. I know Pacquiao doesn’t know how to fight like that, but it’s a lot better than what he’s been doing in the past.
