pac77777777By Dominic Panaia: May 2nd is set to be a great date not only for the Mexican people but for the boxing community as a whole with the Floyd Mayweather Jr vs. Manny Pacquiao mega-fight at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Long has this date been associated with boxing and familiar fighters over the years, so it’s only fitting that we are to witness maybe the greatest ever match up in our generation on this very date.

Since 2009, the many parts of the world have pondered on this super fight not only for the stylistic match up but for something greater “legacy.”

The last six years have thrown some curve balls in this classic match-up. We have seen it broadcast on all major sports channels endlessly and heard it mentioned after every fight these two fighters have fought since. Now the time is here and people are clamoring to have their opinions heard so they can have bragging right after it’s all said and done.

So let us start by having a look at some great stats for the fans that love boxing. When considering this match, we can have look at what belt holding champions they have fought for their titles (I didn’t include vacant titles they fought for or none of the minor titles in boxing only the 4 major titles)

When making comparisons with fights, it’s worth only comparing them at the weight they are competing or else you lose sight of what is realistic at this class. I mean, many fighters are great at other weights but yet fail to be the same fighter at the higher weight they get to. Greats from the golden day through to today have this very problem the speed power and record you had at the lighter weights means absolutely nothing when you settle into a higher weight and continue to fight at that weight so with that said we can only compare these two champions at Welterweight.

Record at Welterweight
Floyd Mayweather – 10 fights 10 wins 0 losses
Manny Pacquiao – 10 fights 8 wins 2 losses

Champions faced at Welterweight
Floyd Mayweather – 4 with 4 wins
Manny Pacquiao – 3 with 2 wins 1 loss

Punches thrown/landed at Welterweight

Manny Pacquiao – 6930/2261 32.6%

Floyd Mayweather – 904 18.3%
Manny Pacquiao – 1165 24.1%
