mayweatherBy Chris WIlliams: Floyd Mayweather Jr has just announced that his fight with Manny Pacquiao is a done deal for May 2nd. THe contracts have been signed and the fight is ready to go!

Mayweather vs. Pacquiao is a done deal!

Mayweather just said this on his shots account:

“What the world has been waiting for has arrived. Mayweather vs. Pacquiao on May 2, 2015, is a done deal. I promised the fans we would get this done, and we did. We will make history on May 2nd. Don’t miss it! This is the signed contract from both fighters. www.themoneyteam.com.”

The weight limit for the fight is 147, and there won’t be a rematch clause, according to Dan Rafael.

“This is not a drill!! This is the real thing!! Mayweather-Pacquiao is on!!! May 2, MGM. I repeat. This is not a drill!!!” Rafael said on his twitter.

With the announcement being made today, it leaves eight days to market the fight with a promotional tour before the two fighters need to start training hard for the fight in March. If Mayweather can persuade Pacquiao to go on a longer press tour, then it’s possible for them to hit 11 cities like the Mayweather vs. Saul “Canelo” Alvarez press tour did back in 2013. For that to happen, Pacquiao will need to give up on the idea of him having a full eight weeks for his training camp.

Mayweather and Pacquiao both could potentially make over $100 million each for the fight. There’s no question Mayweather will walk away with $100 million+ worth of loot for the fight. The only question will Pacquiao get that kind of green, given that he’s on the short end of a 60-40 purse split. If the fight hauls in over $300 million, like some boxing experts think it will, then Pacquiao will get over $100 million. They haven’t discussed what the fight will sell for on pay-per-view, but $100 to $110 is going to be the likely price tag for this great fight.

This is great news for the boxing fans and for the fans. The fight that people have been waiting for since 2009 is finally here. Goodness knows, Mayweather attempted to arrange fights with Pacquiao both in 2009 and 2012 with no luck. He just couldn’t get the Filipino fighter and his promoter Bob Arum to see eye to eye with him, but finally they were able to iron out a contract for the good of the sport.

Moments ago, Mayweather told his fans to go to his Shots account for an announcement. Thus far, he hasn’t said anything. It’s interesting that TMZ is jumping the gun and reporting the Mayweather-Pacquiao fight as a done deal. The question here is did Mayweather report it to TMZ first before letting the rest of the world know?

Mayweather said “Go to my shots ASAP. If you don’t have it then go get it. Shots.com.”

In a sign that Mayweather is about to make a huge announcement, Apple sent a tweet, saying “Floyd Mayweather is making a big annoucement today inside Shots Mayweather-Pacquiao. See it here first.”

Until Mayweather officially makes his announcement on his own, I’m taking TMZ’s announcement with a grain of salt. I’ll only believe the Mayweather-Pacquiao fight is a done deal until “Money” Mayweather says it’s so. Until then, I’m not believing anything.

We already saw TMZ announce the Mayweather vs. Pacquiao fight prematurely several weeks ago as a done deal, and it failed to happen. Now it looks like TMZ is doing it again, and you just can’t really tell.
