Mayweather or Pacquiao? Pick one

pac#4By Iyer Ramos: Boxing is a fighting sport between two men; therefore the man to win the fight “should” be the one with the most effective performance. Effectiveness in this sport, means to hit the opponent more times that the opponent hits you or to get your rival out by any necessary means. Who’s your favorite to win in the Floyd Mayweather Jr vs. Manny Pacquiao fight on May 2nd and HOW?

MANNY PACQUIAO by decision? This is a very possible outcome. Pacquiao’s high punch volume and intense pressure style contrasts with Floyd’s style, which is based on precise highly accurate minimal punching. These two elements combine, can at times give the impression to judges and public that the fighter throwing more punches and applying more pressure is winning the fight. So, I will not be surprised if after 12 rounds of fighting, Manny gets the victory by decision.

The Floyd’s (Junior, Senior, Uncles), they all know Pacman style of 8 to 10 punch combination and ferocious attack. The Floyd’s are all specialists in boxing defense. This is the time when they can display a master plan to neutralize Manny. People are saying: “you can’t defend what you can’t stop”. I said: “you don’t need to stop it, to defend against it,” you use your enemy’s force against himself and to your own benefit. You prepare for your enemy’s strengths, and you use your enemy’s attack to create your own advantage. That’s called Tactics and Strategy.

MANNY PACQUIAO by KO: It is possible. Pac-man has the power, and we have seen it in the past (ask Cotto, Margarito, Morales). Even if some can say that he has lost it. The Algieri fight showed that his fists can still drop a man 6 times in a fight.

Floyd is extremely hard to hit cleanly and Manny is not the most accurate puncher. Floyd will be hit, but likely not effective enough to make him fall, even less to get him out. But there is something more scary. Mayweather can take a heavy punch. Just check the two punches Mosley landed on Floyd on the second round, that bent Floyd’s knees. Check the punch that Maidana landed at the last second of the 3rd round (very similar to the one with which Marquez KO Manny), it was indeed so hard, that after the punch and on the way to his corner Maidana kept looking back at Floyd wondering if Floyd was going to crumble. But, instead after receiving those big punches, Mayweather came back more defiant, more accurate, more dominant.

FLOYD MAYWEATHER jnr by decision: Most likely result. Anyway that’s the way he mainly wins and he is comfortable winning that way. Floyd is economical, effective, and he does not do more than he needs to do, to win a fight. That’s why so many detractors call him: Boring. However, others call him: Genius. Why use an AK-47 to kill a fly?

Manny will throw much more punches and many will connect too. So, if Floyd wants to win he better be prepared to let his hands go more often that he usually likes to. And Floyd must come as accurate as always and mobile enough to make Pacquiao miss. Warning: Manny has the tools to steal the show.

FLOYD MAYWEATHER Jnr by KO: Unlikely, but not impossible. Floyd is not a KO artist. But I am pretty sure that his punches hurt. Otherwise, how you explain why so many bulls like Maidana, Canelo, Cotto, Guerrero after a few rounds they all, slowed down and started thinking twice before charging him. Junior does not have a devastating one punch power, but good quality repetitive punches that cause accumulative damage. Besides, if Pac-man comes rushing in recklessly, openly, out-of-balance, then he will be setting himself for the KO.

However, Pacquiao has settled lately, he is not that dynamo in the ring that was constantly bouncing and that will jump on the air to land a shot. He also must have learnt something after that BIG Marquez punch. So, I believe Manny will not come recklessly forward this time.

It is what it is ,even if it does not look so:

– Who’s more likely win by KO: Manny Pacquiao.
– Who’s more likely to lose by KO: Manny Pacquiao.
– Who’s more likely to win by Decision: Floyd Mayweather.
– Who’s more likely to lose if it go 12 rounds: Floyd Mayweather.

In other words: If Pac-man goes for the KO, he might be the one that ends up KO’d. And, if Floyd, play it safe for 12 rounds , he might not get the win. That’s the intrigue of this fight.

At the end, only one thing is for sure. These two guys are the best of the best for the last 10 years. They were in a collision course before and now they are about to crash.

I just hope that Manny Pacquiao comes on his best shape, so we can finally see the 100% of Floyd.

Let the best fighter win!
