John Molina: I don’t care what Adrien Broner brings to the table

By Dan Ambrose: John Molina Jr (27-5, 22 KOs) is coming off of back to back losses to Humberto Soto and Lucas Matthysse in his last two fights, but Molina isn’t too worried about those defeats.

Molina has moved on and he plans on being ready for his next opponent former three division world champion Adrien Broner (29-1, 22 KOs) on March 7th at the MGM Grand, in Las Vegas, Nevada, USA.

It’s a tough fight for Molina given the punishment he’s taken in his last two fights, but he feels he’s got the power advantage over the 25-year-old Broner in this fight.

Molina can’t afford another loss on his record right now if he wants to remain relevant and continue to get the bigger fights.

“I feel like I’ll be the stronger man in the ring. I’m 100% confident that I’ll be able to implement my will and do what I have to do to come victorious that night,” Molina said in a conference call on Wednesday. “To me, I can care less what Adrien Broner brings to the table. I don’t worry about what he’s doing in his camp. I have things that I have to work on in my camp in order to become victorious that night. On March 7, we’ll find out who really is the truth.”

The way to beat Broner is to be busy and to look to outwork him. Broner tends to go into a shell when he faces guys that throw a lot of punches. In Broner’s last fight against Emmanuel Taylor, Broner was outworked during stretches in the fight and he spent a lot of time on the ropes.

Broner ended up winning the fight by a 12 round decision after Taylor faded late, but it wasn’t an impressive performance from him. In Broner’s loss to Marcos Maidana in 2013, Broner was outworked by Maidana and knocked down twice in the fight. Maidana faded late in the bout, but he’d done enough to get the victory.

“I’m just ready to put on a show. I know John Molina’s going to come swinging for the fences,” Broner said. “This could be a big turnaround for his career. If he beats Adrien Broner who knows where his career can goI know he’s rough, and tough and as cool as Cheeto Puffs, but I’m the man, man. I’ve said it once, but I’ll say it again. I’m the Can Man. Anybody can get it and John Molina’s the one that’s going to have to take this beating on March 7. I definitely will be world champion at 140lbs one day. I feel like with my skills, if I come in and do what I got to do, it’s a great chance that I do stop John Molina.”

Broner is going to have to raise his game considerably if he wants to score a knockout against Molina, because the way he’s been fighting lately, he’s not doing enough to get knockouts. Broner needs to put his punches together for a sustained period of time for him to stop Molina Jr. Broner doesn’t have the punching power that Matthysse has, so it’s going to be a much tougher job for him to try and get Molina out of there.
