fight night-0007(Photo credit: Amanda Kwok/SHOWTIME) By Scott Gilfoid: IBF welterweight champion Kell Brook may have learned who his next opponent will be last night after #2 IBF Jo Jo Dan (34-2, 18 KOs) defeated Canada’s Kevin Bizier (23-2, 16 KOs) by a 12 round split decision at the Colisee de Quebec, Quebec City, Quebec, Canada.

The judges scored the fight 115-112, 114-113 for Dan and 114-113 for Bizier.

Dan is a light puncher with not much in the way of defense and hand speed. In other words, he’s the perfect stay busy fight for Brook for his next fight in March.

Brook’s promoter Eddie Hearn likely won’t put him in with anyone remotely good for his next fight due to Brook having been recently stabbed, so a light hitter like Jo Jo Dan is the perfect opponent for him.

The one question is why the International Boxing Federation made it so easy for Brook to get an easy fight. I mean, out of all the contenders at welterweight, why on earth did they have Dan and Bizier fighting out for the IBF number one spot rather than some of the talented fighters that actually can fight and have good power? I still don’t understand that move.

The Dan-Bizier fight looked like a couple of 2nd tier fighters punching it out, as far as I’m concerned. I didn’t see much in the way of talent from either of these guys, and I had a hard time staying awake because both of them were so incredibly sloppy in the ring.

“Yes, of course (I’d fight Bizier again), but first I want to fight Kell Brook,” Dan said. “I hope we’ll make an exciting fight like this one.”

Dan and Bizier have already fought twice, and it was interesting to see Dan talking about wanting to fight him yet again. I don’t quite understand why Dan is wants to keep fighting Bizier when there are plenty of other contenders that he could fight. Of course, those contenders are arguably a heck of a lot better than Bizier, so perhaps that’s why Dan wants to keep fighting him.
