Khan: Brook could be on my agenda in 2015 if he beats Porter

khan62By Scott Gilfoid: #1 WBC Amir Khan (29-3, 19 KO’s) says he might give Kell Brook (32-0, 22 KO’s) a fight in 2015 if Brook defeats IBF welterweight champion Shawn Porter (24-0-1, 15 KO’s) in their fight this year. Brook will have to capture Porter’s IBF title before Khan will consider giving him a fight, and even then it’s not certain whether Khan will fight him or not.

Given the likelihood that Brook is going to be obliterated by Porter, Khan isn’t really doing much by saying he’ll throw a bone to Brook. It’s almost impossible scenario where Brook is going to beat Porter, and even if he did beat him, Khan will likely get beaten if his adviser Al Haymon takes him off his soft diets of old fighters and puts him in with a real contender with youth and talent.

“At the moment, no, he (Brook) isn’t on the agenda,” Khan said to the Sheffieldtelegraph.co.uk. “He [Brook] has his hands full with Shawn Porter but if he wins then he could definitely be an opponent in the future. Kell has to prove himself first. He has to do that against someone credible. If he wins then it’s worth me and him getting inside the ring at some point within a year.”

I like the part where Khan says that Brook has to beat a credible opponent before he’ll consider fighting him. You can say the same thing about Khan in terms of him still needing to beat a credible opponent before he gets a fight against Floyd Mayweather Jr and Manny Pacquiao. I’m sorry, but I don’t see little 5’5’ Carlos Molina from the lightweight division, and Julio Diaz and Luis Collazo as credible wins. I mean, they might have been halfway decent wins 7-10 years ago, but not now.

Those are Khan’s wins since he was beaten by Lamont Peterson and Danny Garcia. Khan is still stuck at the tune-up stage after his losses to Peterson and Garcia. You can put it on Khan’s adviser and promoters for matching him like that, but Khan could have said no to those three soft touches and told Al Haymon that he wanted Keith Thurman and Shawn Porter instead of Julio Diaz, Carlos Molina and Luis Collazo.

Frankly, Khan vs. Brook doesn’t interest me at all. Brook still hasn’t fought anyone good at 10 years as a pro, and the chances are extremely that he’s going to be exposed by Porter. Instead of Khan talking about giving Brook a chance, he should be talking about how he’s going to give Keith Thurman and Porter a fight.
