maidana65By Allan Fox: There’s some good news about the proposed November 9th pay per view fight between WBA welterweight champion Adrien Broner (27-0, 22 KO’s) and Marcos Maidana (34-3, 31 KO’s). According to Ring TV, Golden Boy Promotions matchmaker Eric Gomez is saying the fight is close to being made. Both guys want the bout, and once they work out the financial side of the negotiations, they’ll be ready to sign the contracts to make the fight official.

Gomez said to RingTV, “It’s close. We’re talking to both fighters. They are both willing to fight each other. It’s in negotiations right now. Both guys are willing to fight each other and that’s the most important thing. It’s just a matter of crunching numbers.”

This is a good step up fight for Broner. He beat Paulie Malignaggi by a 12 round split decision last June to win the World Boxing Association 147 lb. title. Golden Boy needs to test Broner out before they toss him in with Maidana, because if all Broner can do is lean backwards all night, and fumble around with the shoulder roll, Maidana is going to tear him apart. Broner has to be able to move his legs, and throw more combinations.

Broner isn’t going to beat Maidana by standing still like he’s stuck in a sand trap and can’t get out. Broner has to not only use movement against Maidana, but he also has to throw a lot more punches.

Broner’s more of a pot shot fighter than Maywather, and that’s going to get him hurt badly against Maidana. Broner will get outworked by Maidana, and you don’t want to be outworked in a fight against him because it means that Broner will take a lot of punishment.

Maidana has won three straight fights since his loss to Devon Alexander in 2011. Maidana stopped Josesito Lopez in the 6th round last June.
