By Scott Gilfoid: With WBC lightweight champion Adrien Broner (25-0, 21 KO’s) having little luck trying to get WBO lightweight champ Ricky Burns to step inside the ring to face him, the 23-year-old Broner is now targeting Juan Manuel Marquez, the WBO “Fighter of the Decade” to take on if Marquez is up for the fight. Broner believes he’ll beat Marquez, but he doubts that he’ll get the fight.

Broner said to Radio Raheem “I am the biggest face of boxing now. I am the greatest of this era. If Marquez is willing to fight me, I’d love to put on a great show and do what I do best, win. I want to get a victory under my belt in that fight. I can hear him [Marquez] saying the age difference.”

Broner went on to say that he’ll be moving up in weight real soon and he plans on fighting anyone that wants to fight him. Of course, what Broner really means is he’ll fight the big names when he moves up, because he doesn’t want to be wasting time with scrubs, and he doesn’t want to have to chase after people that aren’t willing to get in the ring him.

I wish I could say that Marquez will agree to fight Broner but you and I know Marquez wouldn’t take that fight. Broner is too much like Floyd Mayweather Jr. and we already saw what Mayweather did to Marquez in dominating him in 2009 with a one-sided 12 round decision. Broner is like a younger version of Mayweather, and he’d dominate Marquez in the same manner.

It would be too easy for Broner if that fight was made. Marquez won’t take the fight because he’s been getting good money in his fights with Manny Pacquiao, and he’ll be fighting him next year in a 5th fight and will make even more money. It took Marquez a long time in his career before he started making the huge money with his fights with Pacquiao, and he’s not about to go backwards and fight a dangerous guy like Broner for less than big money.

If Broner was another 5 years into his career and already an established pay per view star, I think Marquez might be tempted but I still don’t think he would do it because Broner is too much like Mayweather, and it wouldn’t be a good match-up for Marquez to take.
