Guerrero dominated a pretty limited Berto for the entire fight by outworking him with a high work rate that Berto couldn’t keep up. Both of Berto’s eyes closed up and he looked really beaten up by the time the fight ended. Berto had been expected to win, but he just didn’t have to firepower to beat Guerrero the way that a lot of boxing fans had thought he would.

Guerrero said after the fight that he wants to face Mayweather next. The WBC has already made it clear that unless Mayweather faces Guerrero they’re going to strip Mayweather of the title. However, I don’t think it’ll come to that because Mayweather Jr. will likely choose to face Guerrero voluntarily because he’s one of the less dangerous options that he has available to him right now. It’s either Mayweather face Guerrero or else fight Manny Pacquiao, Miguel Cotto again or Saul Alvarez.

Those are the fights the boxing public want to see Mayweather fight, but those are difficult fights for him. In comparison, Guerrero is a lot less of a threat to beating Mayweather and hurting him the way that Alvarez, Pacquiao and Cotto would. Mayweather just finished struggling to a 12 round decision over Cotto last May, and I doubt Mayweather wants to fight Cotto anytime soon so he can get a second helping.

Guerrero might give Mayweather problems with his high work rate. Mayweather would be forced to throw a lot of punches if he wanted to avoid getting both of his eyes swollen shut and end up losing the fight.
