Hopkins fans think he can still work his magic, but Hopkins was out of his class October in his fight against Dawson and the future will be the same as the past, with Hopkins getting dominated and possibly finding a way out of the fight. Dawson was beaten by Hopkins victim Jean Pascal by an 11th round technical decision in August 2010. However, Hopkins doesn’t have the hand speed to do the head diving bomb raids that Pascal was doing in his win against Dawson, and there’s still a lot of questions about what would have happened in that fight had one of Pascal’s desperate head first charges not opened up a bad cut over the right eye of Dawson.

The timing of the cut was storybook perfect, as it came just when Dawson had Pascal staggering around the ring after hurting him with a flurry of punches. Moments later, Pascal rams his head accidentally into the face of Dawson, the referee opts to stop the fight right then and there rather than letting Dawson try and finish Pascal off with the remaining time in the round.

Hopkins doesn’t have the hand speed to give Dawson problems and his clinching, which Hopkins was doing a fair amount of in their fight last October, wasn’t slowing Dawson down or keeping him from landing his shots. He was getting to Hopkins and making him look every bit of his 47 years. The injury came for Hopkins in the second round when he was looking incredibly frustrated with Dawson’s boxing ability and was getting out-boxed. Hopkins throws a shot and falls on top of Dawson’s back. Dawson raised up and dropped Hopkins. Whether Hopkins was faking or really hurt, he’s the only that can know that for sure. But what you can’t ignore was how he was struggling.

Dawson will beat Hopkins easily on the 28th, and move onto bigger and better things.
