Macklin-Martinez: Matthew will be knocked out if he tries to throw a lot of punches in this fight

By Scott Gilfoid: Middleweight contender Matthew “Mack The Knife” Macklin (28-3, 19 KO’s) has a style of fighting where he loads up with everything and throws a lot of punches to try and take out his usually overmatched opposition.

Sometimes it works and he’s able to score a knockout; other times he fails and loses the fight when he runs out of gas like he did against WBA World middleweight champion Felix Sturm in Macklin’s 12 round split decision loss last June.

Macklin’s high punch output helps him against most opposition he faces, but on March 17th he’ll be fighting WBC Diamond middleweight champion Sergio Martinez (48-2-2, 27 KO’s), who punches very hard and is capable of knocking Macklin, #3 WBC, #5 WBA, #6 WBO, out with a single left hand to the head if Macklin is stupid enough to try and stand in front of Martinez to throw a lot of punches.

Martinez does really well against guys like Macklin and he’ll produce an early knockout in this fight unless Macklin figures out a different way to fight by running all night long. He probably won’t. Macklin will be too cocky for his own good and will want to go out there thinking he can unload on Martinez.

What will happen then is Macklin will walk into a big left hand from Martinez and get stretched. Mack The Knife is going to find himself out cold and when he comes to he’s going to be wondering what hit him. This isn’t going to be a tough fight or anything resembling a fight. It’s going to be a case of a naïve fighter foolishly walking into some huge shots from Martinez, which will render him unconscious.

Maybe after I’ve been boigglng longer I’ll come up with some more controversial ideas. I like your points about reflecting how you honestly feel even if your opinion is unpopular.

I think Martinez should be #1 P4P. I give him props for taking this fight. Its hard to pick a winner in this fight.

  • Robo says:

Actually guys I just ripped Scott for never writing anything close to reality but by his standards this is an A+. Would love Macklin to do a job on Martinez but agree with SCott that Macklin will walk on to a big shot and be knocked out. that said I don’t see how Macklin has a chance unless he outworks Martinez for 12 hard rounds, after all he can keep safe and work him hard he could go one step further than Barker did, as until getting knocked out Barker was winning the fight

  • Suicide says:

    Martinez wins by knockout

  • Gerard M says:

Theres talk that Martinez is on the slide. I still expect him to win becaues Macklin is made for him, he just keeps coming straight on. But I think Martinezs’ best performances are behind him at this stage. It’s a shame he never got a mega fight which he deserves, but thats boxing, being good can be bad for your career.

  • DaraC says:

I’ll go to the bookies now and back macklin now so. This is the same guy who wrote an article saying carl frampton wouldn’t beat a useless chris hughes. he has no idea about boxing. hes making me lose respect for this website.

  • Belowthebelt says:

If Mac uses his boxing brain, he could take the fight a few rounds before Martinez possibly stops him. Martinez is another level in truth … but surprises can happen.

  • Sausage says:

Anyone can write on here, you just send them your article, thats why you get idiots like Gilfoid on here.
