Mayweather, Marquez, Pacquiao and the Haters, Part 2

Image: Mayweather, Marquez, Pacquiao and the Haters, Part 2By Glen Anglin: Manny Pacquiao is a once-in-a-lifetime treat for boxing fans. The man is a fiend in the ring; an electric, flashing, inexplicable force of nature. He throws blizzards of punches, is always in shape and always comes to fight and fights often. Are there flaws in his technique?

Sure. Has he won or drawn in some VERY close fights? (the Marquez fights). Again the answer is yes. But where is the shame in fighting JMM to a virtual dead heat or losing a close decision to Erik Morales when El Terrible was at his very best? All 3 of those fights could have gone either way.

Consider this; in his 60+ rounds fought against the great Mexican trio of Barrera, Morales and Marquez, he scored something like 8-10 knockdowns (and a few more that weren’t called by the referee). And how many times did they knock him down??? Zero, that’s how many. Of his two early losses in the Philippines (when the skeletal Pacquiao barely had money for food), one of them was from a punch squarely on the cup. But, regardless of his early career, suffice it to say that Manny Pacquiao has racked up an eye-popping winning record in the last decade the likes of which has been rarely seen. How about Barrera (twice), Larios, Morales (twice), Marquez, Diaz, Hatton, Cotto, Clottey, Margarito, and Mosely? Is that good enough for you to stop calling him a fraud? If not, then you are a deluded fool.

Rooting for your guy is one thing, but lying to yourself by saying that the guy you don’t like is anything less than what his ring performances have demonstrated is like jealous schoolgirls dissing each other’s hair style.

It’s time for boxing fans to grow up and behave like men, instead of 13 year old girls. Once and for all, Mayweather, Marquez and Pacquiao are ALL great fighters. They have proven it in the ring. JGA.
