Dawson stops Hopkins in 2nd round!!!!!

By Dan Ambrose:

Bernard Hopkins vs. Chad Dawson round by round

Round 1

Dawson jabbing a slow Bernard Hopkins with stinging jabs. Hopkins unable to pull the trick for some reason. Dawson crouching, throwing combinations and lead left hands. Hopkins mostly trying to clinch and looking slow. Hopkins only able to pot shot with hand while following forward to try and smother Dawson. It’s not working though. Dawson firing on Hopkins with quick combinations and embarrassing the old champion. Hopkins can’t beat Dawson with pot shotting one punch at a time, but without any hand speed, that’s all Hopkins has.

Dawson 10-9

Round 2

Dawson continuing to make an old looking Hopkins eat jabs. Hopkins is just too slow and looks ancient. Hopkins gives Dawson a hard shove to the canvas. Hopkins running after Dawson gets up and making him eat leather. Dawson land a huge right hand to the head sending Hopkins in full retreat. Another big right hand from Dawson. Hopkins falls down after Dawson shrugs Hopkins off his back. Hopkins was climbing all over Dawson, and he shrugged him off out of annoyance, causing the 46-year-old to hit the deck. Hopkins didn’t want to or couldn’t get up. Hopkins looking over at the referee for a sign if he’ll take points off or disqualify Dawson. Referee not going for it. Hopkins seemingly crying, with perhaps his left shoulder injured. It looked like a flop from Hopkins. No foul called. Fight over! Dawson wins by TKO 2

What we saw here tonight was a young lion ripping apart an old lion. It was never even a fight. Hopkins was too old, too slow, and too past his prime to compete with the superior Dawson. Sometimes fighters get old and Hopkins was exposed tonight. Had the fight gone further, Hopkins likely would have been humiliated. Dawson was just too quick, elusive and skilled for Hopkins. It’s good thing Hopkins hit the deck and didn’t get up. It’s going to look bad if Hopkins’ shoulder wasn’t injured.

Results: Dawson wins by TKO 2 over Hopkins.

what happened to the legacy of american boxers? first devon alexander quitted then accused tim bradley of headbutting, then zab juddah quitted to amir khan saying he got a low blow w/c after the replay shows it landed on the belt line. then floyd cheap shotd victor ortiz claiming he only retalliatd from vic’s headbutt, then now, bhop quittd probably hoping for a dq win over dawson who clearly tackled him but still got a tko win??!!!! this is clearly a sign that boxing is no longer an american affair like it was. america needs a new face in boxing.

I just want to vomit when I read the garbage from this idiot writer ambrose.

  • Bni says:

    hang on old man

  • VegasMike says:

Dan Ambrose is easily the worst boxing writer in the business. His description of the fight bears no resemblance to what actually transpired.

  • Gard says:

    Hang it up old man!

  • Clue Giver says:

For those who think Bhop was faking – check ESPN he got a medical examination after the bout and its documented now that his shoulder was dislocated. Real injury resulting from illegal boxing move = No contest / disqualification NOT awarding the challenger the belts! RESULTS WILL BE OVERTURNED!

  • ste says:

Once again U.S. boxing turns into a circus act and you payed over $50 for it. Over in the U.K. we got a fantastic 12 world title fight and a probably the start of a good rivalry between clev/bellew.

  • Otto Matic says:

Hopkin was doing a “Hayefaker”. Never underestimate the powers of a snook. Some of these boxers are aching to go Hollywood. Hopkins can always say he tried but sadly no one believed him.

  • Anonymous says:

Hopkins was faking. He could have continued he just didn’t want to. Dawson would have started to pick him apart if the fight went on. I’m glad I didn’t buy the ppv cuz this fight was a bust.

  • Anonymous says:

Another farce of a fight, only on HBO!

  • Dan says:

Hopkins tried to do a little acting, like Dirrel did against Abraham but didn’t work this time.On the other hand Dawson sucks big time.Bad fight!

  • WarMaidana says:

serves hopkins right, he faked injuries against roy jones in their second fight now this one. He was terrified of dawson, dont know if he wanted to quit but hoped dawson would get a point deducted. Well spoken by Dan. Hopkins is a coward and a joke, i feel bad for dawson, not a good way to win but hopkins jumped on him first

  • G.I. says:

Hopkins did ok. He was pushed down and it should be a no contest. Hopkins did get hurt. Thank God I didn’t buy that fight though.

  • Anonymous says:

    @The Bible of Boxing

Please show me the prediction you keep boasting about where you said that B-Hop would lose to Chad.

  • Miltz Boxing News says:

    ROUND-BY-ROUND ACTION..(Courtesy Miltz Boxing News)

    Bernard Hopkins vs. Chad Dawson

First minute has Dawson pressuring Hopkins without much success for either boxer. Dawson comes out jabbing to the body and head. Hopkins on the ropes but moving effectively. Dawson applying pressure. Dawson clinches with Hopkins, who tries to land a right hand. Dawson throws a combination as Hopkins sits on the ropes.Hopkins rushes into a clinch.Boxers clinch and a right hand lands on Dawson, whose right hand hits the canvas. Referee rules it not a knockdown. Right hand lands over the top of Hopkins’ guard. Dawson pushes Hopkins down as the two clinch. Hopkins looks hurt as he lies halfway through the ropes.

  • john says:

now how can you injure your shoulder from that soft fall on a mat of all places,he didn’t land hard and directly on his shoulder,he landed sitting down and then on his back,he quit, plain and simple

  • bbwoof says:

The folks who paid for this must be really angry at themselves. I did NOT pay for it because I figured it would be a boring 12 round fight. If the tko gets overturned and a rematch is ordered, I’m betting it will not be ppv because no one will buy it. BHop should just quit if it’s overturned. Heck, quit anyhow.

  • Boxing Kangaroo says:

As a massive B HOP fan, it was embarassing to see Bernard over exagerate his injury and not continue. Chad looked bigger and stronger and wasn’t going to put up with Bernard’s hitting and holding tactics and his tendency to lean on opponents. Good for him. Put simply, Bernard faked an injury to get out of the fight. This has temporarily marred Hopkin’s legacy, no doubt. The fact that he was even in a world title fight at age 46, is amazing in itself. B HOP will definitely go down in history as a boxing legend. But this was not his finest hour. Especially after 2 lightweights , Linare and Demarco, gave their all in the preceding fight.

  • wolf warrior says:

    why TKO?
how B-HOP got to the floor?
maybe he feigned injury,we can not know
but something was wrong with the referee, why he refused to explain his decision?

  • Hopkins got robbed - again. says:

This was a referee mistake that lead to a TKO victory for Dawson, when it should have been a N/C.

They asked Bernard if he could continue, he said YES. He was then told he COULD NOT continue, because his shoulder was dislocated. Because the refferee did not call a foul when Hopkins was thrown, and he couldent continue in the fight – he in turn looses by TKO in a very shady and unfair situation.

All in all; Dawson threw down Hopkins in the second. Bernard dislocated his shoulder on the side of the ring, and was denied the opportunity to continue (against his wishes) due to legitimate injury. Because no foul was called when he fell initially, Dawson got the TKO.

Complete bullt. Hopkins is still champ in my eyes!

  • Rf says:

This will have to be overturned. It was a bad call by the ref and the commission will make it right.

I agree that BHop is a dirty fighter, but he was not being dominated in this fight. It was very competitive.

  • tha real says:

Lol that dude said watch only latins box….lmao funny all offense no real technique the best boxers are black lets be real….plus money may would kill n counter punch the pac man to death….roll with it or get rolled over

  • hophip says:

bad acting from bernard… if he only tried to continue the fight instead of acting like he’s in pain maybe he could regain his loss at first round.

  • A_will says:

I agree truth read my post

  • truth says:

trust me this fight will be revoked and WILL BE AWARDED A NO CONTEST

  • The Bible of Boxing says:

Borenard had his right forearm in Dawkins neck and was pushing down. I predicted a loss by Bore-nard. I said his dirty tactics would catch up with him and they did.
Bore-nard knew he was under pressure and wanted out. It was shaping up as another boring Bore-nard fight where he was trying to do his usual dirty stuff. Dawkins kept up a great pace which Borenard knew he could not match so he quit.
Did he run out of PEDS? I don’t get how suddenly he has more energy than just a few fights ago? The Jones fight he ws dead tired but against Pascal he was doing pushups?
I am glad he is gone and hope for good. He had a good run but just go away now with theat dirty clucth, feint, grab, paw, circle, fake, fake (as in his injury) and then throw a forearm.

  • A_will says:

I have a strong feeling this won’t be fight of the year lol

  • The Bible of Boxing says:

Borenard got what he deserved. If it was the other way you folks would have said Dawkins got what he deserved. The truth is that he is a dirty fighter who does what he has to win and since he is old everyone lets him get away with it. He was not hurt he just quit. The old man got his old medicine and he could not take it.

  • Thrill says:

    y was this an PPV?

  • Floyd's On Roids says:

Chad Dawson was comin on! All B-Hop was doing was hitting & holding. B-Hop ran into Dawson’s shoulder roll, got lifted up and thrown off! How Hopkins landed is controversial! The ref didn’t call it a foul. Hopkins wanted a “no contest!” A very bizarre ending! You should see the look on Oscar De la Hoya’s face? Chad Dawson is the new champ!

  • jm says:

hahaha i feel for the people who paid for this fight ,,,two fights in a row ,,black fighters and their acting ,,please people take notice watch only fights with latinos ,flipinos and then only then you will see areal fight

  • deathrow says:

The Old man didn`t want to continue becase Chad is too hungry and aggressive in the fight

  • A_will says:

The results will be contested by Monday morning and overturned you can not win a boxing match with no boxing. How can you get a tko without throwing or landing a punch whats next a football game with no football

  • M4RK says:

TKO my a.s.s – which punch scored the TKO? NONE! Shudda been a No Contest.

  • the truth is says:

boxing is dying, and fights like this is the reason…

  • polo says:

happy didnt pay for it. dawson rematch with pascel???? face the other canadian instead more money in it.

  • Mjelstad says:

Hell no young lion rippping old lion apart!
Hopkins was quick as ever landing punches at dawson! He was getting robbed tonight, no question bout it

  • motownhitman says:

Uhh I’m not sure what fight you were looking at but it certainly was not like Hopkins was getting beat down. none the less…Hopkins threw a punch, it missed, dawson ducked causing Hopkins to lean over his back then dawson sorta pushed him off with his shoulder, hopkins fell through the ropes and hurt his shoulder. The ref asked if he could continue he said yes but the ref said his shoulder looked bad and said he couldn’t continue. Because the judge did not call a foul and did not let hopkins continue it was ruled a TKO in favor of Dawson. Terrible call by the ref. Even if Dawson did not technically committ a foul, for Dawson to win via TKO just seems wrong!

  • M4RK says:

I’m gonna take up boxing and just start body slamming ppl when they clinch if thats legal. Fack man can’t wait for Pacquiao to fight we might actually see a real battle not like these little fairies Mayweather and Dawson. Glad I didnt pay to watch this shiat.

  • Patrick says:

I kept saying it was Dawson’s fight to lose. He had all the advantages. And that B-Hop is now too slow to trade inside. He relies on lead rights and smoothing his opponent. Seems that didn’t work for B-Hop tonight, and he was getting beat up. Just like I predicted he would.

  • Anonymous says:

The Ref made the correct decision..B-Hop knew Dawson was too strong..No Foul.. Typical Hopkins.. Max Keller is a a Useless Interviewer..Come On Dawson…

  • kardo says:

    Floyd a sucker puncher
    Dawson a Judo master
    Hopkins faking injuries
    Bradly a head-butter
    Alexander a quitter
Mosley fight not to win but to survive.

  • Confounded says:

What on earth just happened!!!! Shocking and disappointing end to what was shaping up to be a real fun evening. I am telling you, a true shocker in the end.

Also, Ambrose what fight were you watching? In the first round I saw Hopkins circling away avoiding punches, throwing the lead right and then grabbing on. It was not beautiful but it was more effective than anything Dawson was doing. In fact I thought Dawson looked mostly like a frustrated fool in the first round chasing around an old man and landing with nothing.

In the second round Dawson started hitting B-Hop with his jab, but it was nothing decisive. Aside from the occasional jab Dawson didn’t land anything, it certainly didn’t look like he had him hurt until suddenly he threw the old man to the floor in something more resembling a football tackle than something you would see in a boxing match. Admittedly B-Hop was leaning on Dawson trying to tie him up, but I thought it was a NC not a TKO, I didn’t see a punch end the fight and I didn’t think that the referee made the right decision.

  • Bern says:

Just looked up Boxrec, TKO after Hop was unable to continue after being thrown from a clinch

  • The Bible of Boxing says:

Dan I predicted a loss by Bore-nard. I said his dirty tactics would catch up with him and it did. He tried to push Dawkins down but he would have none of it and pushed him off.
Bore-nard knew he was under pressure and wanted out. But Dan, please report how the fight went. Dawkins kept up a great pace which Borenard knew he could not match so he quit. The old warrior quite. He ran out of PEDS.

  • The Cat says:

The real losers are the fans who boughtthis fight.

  • some1 says:

hahah lmao it wasnt a punch it he got pushed and then hopkins injured his shoulder

  • KILLERBUD says:

ambrose, shut up. There is a possibility Hopkins was injured, but it appears to be a flop for quick easy money. Either way, it has to be called a no contest due to the posibility of the injury.

  • A_will says:

This is the 2nd straight beat the fans out of money fight I think I will find a new sport and sorry to the ppv buyers like myself thanks jerks for nothing

  • Sean says:

Dan you have lost your mind! What right hand sent Hopkins down? HAHAHAHAHA

  • fgdfgdfgdf says:

    not a punch a foul

  • Pactards love the Power Peds says:

Well it was like a tackle to the ground but was not called a foul and dawson won the fight by TKO!
