Dawson, 29, recently split with trainer Emanuel Steward because Dawson wanted to stay close to his family in Connecticut and didn’t want to travel all the way to Detroit to train with Steward for the fight.

Instead of this hurting Dawson in his preparation for the 46-year-old Hopkins, it’s actually helped him because Dawson is now back with his old trainer Scully, who trained him in the past between 2007 and 2008 during some of Dawson’s best years. And Dawson is also getting help from Wright, who was known in the past for having one of the best jabs in boxing and also well respected for his defensive skills.

Wright said this about Dawson: “Bernard is sneaky and crafty, but I think that Chad has a styhle that can beat him. He’s tall and quick, with a good defense and hand speed. He can move, but he’s not scared to get in there and fight. Bernard wants to try and take you out of your fight. Chad doesn’t need to do that. He needs to do what we’re showing him and make Hopkins fight our fight. We can win this.”

The trick with Hopkins is to get your punches off first, move a little and catch him when he comes diving forward to land and grab. Dawson doesn’t need to try and wrestle or in fight with Hopkins the way that Jean Pascal did. He’s got to get break free when Hopkins tries the punch and grab routine and keep him on the outside where Hopkins is much more limited.
