Burns thinks he’ll give Broner a lot of problems

Image: Burns thinks he'll give Broner a lot of problemsBy Scott Gilfoid: After making three title defenses against contenders that I feel have no business being ranked in the top 20, let alone fighting for a title, WBO super featherweight champion Ricky Burns (32-2, 9 KO’s) has finally decided to take on a real threat to his World Boxing Organization strap against the vastly talented Adrien Broner (21-0, 17 KO’s) on November 26th at the U.S Bank Arena, Cincinnati, Ohio.

Burns thinks he’s going to give Broner problems with his constant pressure and work rate. I hope for Burns’ sake he doesn’t try and pressure Broner, because it will make Broner’s job so much easier. Burns will walk into a shot, get planted and then taken out when he gets back to his feet. Look it as a replay of Broner’s 1st round destruction of Jason Litzau last June. The problem is Burns is even slower than Litzau, and much weaker. He’s got no punching power, and nothing for Broner to respect. He’s just a light hitting combination fighter that had a bad habit of playing it rough. Other than that, Burns is completely limited and out of his depth against Broner.

“Broner is a good counter puncher with an impressive knockout ration and is always looking to throw his big left hook,” Burns said to the Scotsman.com. “When I watched him fight Daniel Ponce De Leon I got the impression that he is a Floyd Mayweather type of fighter. However, he was rather lucky to get the verdict on points and, with my high intensity boxing, I can cause him some problems.”

Broner defeated Ponce De Leon last March by a 10 round decision by the scores of 96-94, 99-91 and 96-94. He beat a guy with a lot more power than Burns and did it with magnificent boxing. De Leon is also a pressure fighter, but a lot better than Burns. It was an easy fight for Broner, and the scores don’t show hoe badly he dominated De Leon. Against a weak puncher like Burns, Broner is going to have it easy. This isn’t going to be a competitive match because Burns is too soft to stand up to Broner’s shots.
