Humberto Soto vs. David Diaz could replace Margarito-Jones on Pacquiao-Clottey undercard
By Eric Thomas: Michael Marley of Examiner.com is reporting that former World Boxing Council lightweight champion David Diaz (35-2-1, 17 KO’s) could be facing super featherweight Humberto Soto (50-7-2, 32 KO’s) on the undercard of the WBO welterweight title fight between champion Manny Pacquiao and challenger Joshua Clottey at the Dallas Cowboy stadium, in Arlington, Texas. The possible Soto-Diaz fight would take the place of the welterweight bout between former WBA welterweight champion Antonio Margarito and Carson Jones.
This is a win-win situation either way for boxing fans. The Diaz vs. Soto fight will likely be a much more interesting fight for fans given the exciting style of fighting that Soto and Diaz, both brawlers, bring to the ring with them. The only drawback is that Soto will likely be too good for Diaz and may end up pounding him into the canvas almost as quickly as Margarito will likely do against the over-matched Jones if their fight takes place on March 13th.
If Margarito doesn’t receive his license right away on Thursday, Arum will be looking to bring him back for a fight in Mexico on May 8th. Since the fight wouldn’t be taking place in the United States, it wouldn’t matter whether Margarito has his boxing license back or not.
There is talk of Margarito, if he can get his boxing license back, being a future opponent for Pacquiao in 2010 if the negotiations for a bout between Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Pacquiao go nowhere. Margarito would then be the backup plan to take Mayweather’s place for a fight at the Dallas Cowboy stadium.
Margarito, a very popular fighter among Mexican boxing fans, would likely be able to draw in a lot of Mexican fans to come to the Dallas Cowboy stadium to see the fight between him and Pacquiao.
As for the Diaz-Soto fight, this is an excellent replacement fight for the Margarito-Jones bout.
Other than the Pacquiao-Clottey fight, this could wind up being the most competitive bout on the card. There aren’t many interesting fights on the undercard with former lightweight champion Jose Luis Castillo facing Alfonso Gomez and John Duddy vs. Michael Medina being the most notable fights on the card. Super bantamweight prospect Roberto Marroquin (12-0, 9 KO’s) is also fighting on the undercard.

Who wants that. Why does’nt Bob look outside the box a little. All the fighters on the card don’t have to be in house fighters.
LMAO Wow. I would bet everything I own this doesn’t happen. Michael Marley??? The man that insisted people inside Mayweather’s camp told him Mayweather “balked” at fighting Mosley. Then when Mayweather waited one or two days longer then expected to sign, he actually claimed “I told you so! I told you so!” When he told us Mayweather balked at fighting Mosley when in reality he had challenged him twice befoe when Mosley was younger, faster, and better and than signed a contract to fight him just 16 days after Berto pulled out of the January 30 bout. I’ve just lost all respect for Eric Thomas. Quoting Marley saying something is happening would be like quoting me saying a match is going to happen. I don’t know any boxer’s or trainers or promoters personally, so if I broke a story it would be quite odd. Same with Marley. Can’t people wait until a real source, with at least the tiniest shred of credibility reports something? This is nothing more than a rumor. Go to your local barbershop and you can hear more credible stories and rumors than from this character. What a joke.
margarito vs pacquio? this better opponents then margarito…not a good much
arum needs to copy MMA and have some good undercard bouts also….I love boxing but the main event shouldnt not be the only fight that people should be looking forward to….why cant there be a diaz vs soto fight also along with margarito vs jones…? I been noticing how bob arum works…and it seems like he looks for fights that make money ( or what he thinks will make money) not what poeple (boxin fans) would like to see…he has god fighters under his promotion but he doesnt no what to with them..
