Image: Prescott-McCloskey: Breidis can make people forget about Khan on 9/10By William Mackay: Depending on how well Colombian knockout artist Breidis Prescott (24-2, 19 KO’s) does against Paul McCloskey (22-1, 12 KO’s) in their World Boxing Association (WBA) light welterweight title eliminator bout next month on September 10th, Prescott could make a lot of boxing fans forget all about Amir Khan.

That would be bad news for Khan, because he’s spent so much time being matched up against guys that he can succeed against in fights shown on HBO. It would be amusing if Prescott is able to eclipse Khan’s recent short term fame with a vicious knockout against McCloskey.

It may be hard for some boxing fans to believe that Prescott can do this, because he’s lost twice in his career to Miguel Vazquez and Kevin Mitchell. However, styles make fights and Prescott has clearly improved a lot since losing to those two fighters. With his power still 100% intact and facing a weak puncher who thinks defense only, Prescott will be looking to score a big knockout so that he can improve on the performance that Khan did in his win over McCloskey last April.

To be sure, it won’t he hard to improve on what Khan did, because he didn’t look at all good against the Irish fighter. This was a fight that Khan really wanted over more established fighters in the light welterweight division like Victor Ortiz and Lamont Peterson. But it ended up biting Khan on the backside when he had to struggle to beat McCloskey in a very poor performance.

All Prescott has to do is go out and land his shots without failing with both hands hitting air, and he’ll have done a better job than Khan. It’s going to be fairly easy to do. Knocking McCloskey out will be a huge bonus for Prescott, as it will show that his 1st round knockout win over Khan three years ago wasn’t a fluke thing like some of Khan’s loyal fans have been saying.
