Williams is coming off of a 7th round TKO loss to Manuel Charr in June, and has lost four out of his last seven fights.

It’s sad how Williams’ once promising career has suddenly turned for the worse in the past three years. He was still fighting reasonably well in 2008, but things have really turned sour for him since then with losses to Carl Baker, Derek Chisora, Albert Sosnowski and Charr.

Williams should be able to get by the 47-year-old Cole, who hasn’t fought in two years since losing a six round unanimous decision to fringe heavyweight contender Timur Ibragimov in September 2009. Cole was an excellent cruiserweight at one time, holding down the IBF title from 1992 to 1995, and beating guys like Glenn McCrory, Uriah Grant, James Warring and Nate Miller.

Cole’s problems began when he moved up in weight to the heavyweight division where he never really had the power to compete. At cruiserweight, the 6’4″ Cole could dominate with his height and reach. But at heavyweight, his power didn’t carry up with him and he soon found himself getting beaten by the likes of Tim Witherspoon, Michael Grant, Jameel McCline, Juan Carlos Gomez, Lance Whitaker, Hasim Rahman and many, many more. It’s too bad that Cole moved up in weight because had he stayed at cruiserweight he likely would have continued to dominate for while longer at that weight.
