Terence Crawford vs. Raymundo Beltran on November 29th in Omaha, Nebraska

beltran223By Scott Gilfoid: The talented unbeaten WBO lightweight champion Terence Crawford (24-0, 17 KOs) will be making his second and likely his last title defense of his WBO strap in two months on November 29th against #1 WBO Raymundo Beltran (29-6-1, 17 KOs) in Crawford’s home city at the CenturyLink Center, in Omaha, Nebraska, USA.

Crawford feels that Beltran was robbed last September in 2013 when he challenged former WBO lightweight champion Ricky Burns in his home city of Glasgow, Scotland and had to settle for a 12 round draw.

Arum wants Terence Crawford vs. Raymundo Beltran on November 8th

beltran1By Dan Ambrose: If you were hoping to see WBO lightweight champion Terence Crawford (24-0, 17 KO’s) move up in weight to 140 to try and face guys like Manny Pacquiao, Ruslan Provodnikov, Lucas Matthysse or Chris Algieiri, you’re going to have to wait a while for those fights to happen if they ever do, because Bob Arum of Top Rank plans on matching Crawford up against his #1 WBO lightweight challenger 32-year-old Raymundo Beltran (29-6-1, 17 KO’s) next on November 8th, according to Steve Kim.

The Crawford-Beltran fight still isn’t official, so there’s an outside chance that Crawford could fight someone else, but considering that Arum promotes Beltran and that he really doesn’t have anyone else to match him against right now, you can bet that the Beltran-Crawford fight will very likely take place.

Terrence Crawford v Yuriorkis Gamboa review

gamboa00000By James Allen: In his hometown of Omaha, Nebraska on the twenty-eighth of June 2014, Terrence Crawford successfully beat back the challenge of Yuriorkis Gamboa to his WBO Light-Welterweight title.

The two men met with identical undefeated records, though Gamboa’s campaign has mainly been waged at Super-Featherweight, and the disparity in size between the two has been evident ever since the first press conference. This clearly didn’t matter to Gamboa then, and it didn’t seem to bother him as they listened to the silky tones of Michael Buffer introduce the fight to a rabidly partisan crowd.

Crawford to likely stay at lightweight, Beltran a possible next opponent

crawford6By Dan Ambrose: In a sign that they may feel WBO lightweight champion Terence Crawford isn’t ready for to test his skills against the equally large light welterweights like Lucas Matthysse and Ruslan Provodnikov, Crawford’s manager Cameron Dunkin said to Fightnews.com that Crawford may stay at lightweight because he still is able to make weight in the division.

Dunkin is leaving it up to Crawford to make the decision whether to move up in weight or stay where he’s at. But with Dunkin seeing Crawford as still able to make the weight, it’s likely that Crawford will stay at lightweight rather than move up to 140 and face guys with bigger power and size than what’s become accustomed to facing.

Gamboa’s stock goes up in loss to Crawford

gamboa64By Dan Ambrose: The former IBF/WBA featherweight champion Yuriorkis Gamboa (23-1, 16 KO’s) really raised his stock last Saturday night in his fight against junior middleweight sized WBO lightweight champion Terence Crawford (24-0, 17 KO’s) in their fight at the CenturyLink Center in Omaha, Nebraska.

While Gamboa ended up losing the fight by a 9th round knockout after referee Genaro Hernandez pulled the plug on the fight following a knockdown of Gamboa in the round, it was a very spirited performance from the Cuban star in fighting someone much bigger than him in the 5’8”, 152 pound Crawford. Gamboa, only 5’5”, was fighting what was essentially a junior middleweight last Saturday night in 26-year-old Crawford, and he did a good job of it.

Crawford: I saw Gamboa as a featherweight, not a lightweight

gamboa0000By Dan Ambrose: One of the reasons why WBO lightweight champion Terence Crawford (24-0, 17 KO’s) felt assured of victory going into last night’s fight against 5’5 ½” Yuriorkis Gamboa (23-1, 16 KOs) was because he saw him as someone who was little more than a pumped up featherweight who had moved up in weight to the lightweight division, but who really belonged still at featherweight.

Crawford, 5’8”, outweighed Gamboa on the night of the fight 152 to 145, and had a long reach advantage of 5” inches. It was no wonder that with all of the things in his favor that Crawford was going to come out ahead when the two of them went at it last night at the CenturyLink Center, in Omaha, Nebraska, USA. Crawford used his size to stop Gamboa in the 9th round after putting him down 4 times in the fight.

Crawford gloats after win: “I told Gamboa ‘you shouldn’t have taken this fight'”

crawford8888By Dan Ambrose: WBO lightweight champion Terence Crawford (24-0, 17 KO’s) was in the mood to gloat about his win at the post-fight press conference on Saturday night after knocking challenger Yuriorkis Gamboa (23-1, 16 KO’s) in the 9th round at the CenturyLink Center in Omaha, Nebraska.

Crawford said after the fight at the post-fight press conference, “We train extremely hard. I was ready for anything he was gonna bring. I commend Gamboa. But I was destined to win. I told him, ‘You shouldn’t have taken this fight.’”

You couldn’t blame Gamboa for taking the fight because he had tried to get a fight against Mikey Garcia at super featherweight, but Top Rank couldn’t make that fight. So instead of letting Gamboa fight Mikey, and possibly beat him, they let Gamboa fight the bigger Crawford, who is more like a light welterweight than a lightweight.
