By Allan Fox: UFC star Conor McGregor took a big step towards getting ready for a big money fight against Floyd Mayweather Jr. by applying for a boxing license on Thursday with the Nevada Athletic Commission. Mayweather, 40, tends to fight in Las Vegas, and McGregor applying for a license in that state would appear to be a preliminary move to make that fight happen.

It didn’t make sense what Mayweather said, but it suggested that he’s not in real hurry to speed the negotiations up for this boxing match. However, the Mayweather-McGregor fight could be a done deal very soon.

McGregor’s UFC boss Dana White believes it’ll be more like $75 million. Either way, it’s a lot of money that the 28-year-old MMA fighter stands to get for fight that he has no experience.

The contract for the Mayweather-McGregor fight still hasn’t been signed yet. There’s been talk that the fight could take place in September. But with McGregor already starting training for the fight, it suggests that it’ll likely be happening in the summer. McGregor, a UFC star, can’t stay out of the octagon for that much time.

De La Hoya sees the Mayweather-McGregor fight as being embarrassing for McGregor, and not good for UFC organization. Rather than fight Mcgregor, which De La Hoya sees as a disrespect to boxing, De La Hoya has a suggestion for Floyd. He thinks he should fight a rematch with Saul Canelo Alvarez at 160.
By Brian Garnett: It is embarrassing to watch the best boxer of this era chase down a fight with a guy whom has never fought in a professional boxing match in Floyd Mayweather Jr. chasing a fight against Conor McGregor. It is disgusting to watch a guy to whom boxing has given so much to consistently dismiss current champions as not being “on his level” while promoting a fight with a novice. When asked about fighting a current boxing champion such as Keith Thurman Mayweather is quick to say that he has no interest in those fights or worse yet he will say he doesn’t know much about that fighter. That is utterly disrespectful to the sport of boxing.

Mayweather thinks McGregor will price himself out of the fight by asking for too much money. That might be the least of it unfortunately. McGregor still need permission from his UFC bosses to take the fight with the 40-year-old Mayweather.

Mayweather is imploring the 28-year-old McGregor to sign the contract for them to fight in June. Mayweather is saying it’s official that he’s coming out of retirement, but it looks like it’s just a lot of talk from him. Until McGregor takes the fight with him, it’s not official that Mayweather is coming out of retirement. Will the UFC allow McGregor to fight outside of their sport? That is the big question.
