By Jeff Aranow: Saul “Canelo” Alvarez doesn’t care for the idea of Floyd Mayweather Jr. facing UFC star Conor McGregor in a boxing match. Canelo thinks it’s a bad idea for the sport for a fight between Mayweather and a fighter that has never boxed before in 28-year-old McGregor.

The Mayweather vs. McGregor fight has a lot of hurdles to overcome before it can take place right now, and it remains to be seen if Mayweather can negotiate it. McGregor is under contract with the UFC, and they might not agree to the fight.

Atlas believes McGregor will break the rules in a boxing match with Mayweather Jr.

Image: Atlas believes McGregor will break the rules in a boxing match with Mayweather Jr.

By Nedu Obi: Teddy Atlas, once an assistant trainer (under Cus D’Amato) to former heavyweight boxing champion Mike Tyson, has a feeling that if the Floyd Mayweather Jr. vs. Conor McGregor boxing match comes to fruition, the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) lightweight champion will bend the rules in his favor if he sees himself losing the fight.

“If you would ask me the question, Atlas said to espn.co.uk. “Why does – if McGregor really can’t win this fight standing up under those rules, and those would be the rules, then why would he take it? Because he would break the rules, he would come in there, he would break the rules, he would pin pin him, and then he would proclaim himself the king of the ring.”

McGregor says he’d be looking to KO Mayweather

mcgregor4

By Eric Baldwin: UFC fighter Conor McGregor just won’t shut-up about his interest in fighting 39-year-old retired former world champion Floyd Mayweather Jr. for some reason. Leonard Ellerbe of Mayweather Promotions made it perfectly clear last week that there’s not going to be a fight between Mayweather and McGregor, because Mayweather is happy and retired.

That doesn’t seem to be sinking in with the 28-year-old McGregor, who continues to talk about wanting to fight Mayweather. McGregor picked up a boxing license in California last week. McGregor says that if he fought Mayweather that he’d be looking to knock him out. What McGregor doesn’t say is that he would likely need to have permission from the UFC before he could fight Mayweather.

Ellberbe says Mayweather vs. McGregor isn’t happening

mcgregor4

By Allan Fox: Leonard Ellberbe of Mayweather Promotions says there’s no chance of a fight taking place between UFC star Conor McGregor and the retired boxing start Floyd Mayweather Jr. The 28-year-old McGregor made news this week by getting his boxing license to fight in the sport in California. However, Ellerbe sees it as a strategy for McGregor to expand his fan base by him name dropping Mayweather’s name frequently, and putting it out three that he’s ready to fight him.

By McGregor constantly saying stuff like that, boxing fans will likely discover him and start paying attention to his fights in the MMA. Ellberbe doesn’t think the UFC management honchos will ever give McGregor permission to compete in boxing, because it would likely end badly for him. McGregor is under constant with the UFC, and he would need their permission for him to fight in another sport like boxing.

McGregor still interested in Mayweather fight

degale-jack-mayweather-gervonta-11

By Allan Fox: UFC star Conor McGregor is still very much interested in facing former six-division world champion Floyd Mayweather Jr. in a boxing match when/if he returns to the ring in the near future. McGregor and Mayweather would need to work out the money split for the fight to become a reality.

The 28-year-old McGregor reportedly wants $100 million for the Mayweather fight, which might be a realistic number if the fight creates the kind of interest that the Mayweather vs. Manny Pacquiao fight created last year in their ‘Fight of the Century’ in May 2015. For the Mayweather-McGregor fight to bring in that many fans, it would require a lot of boxing fans to purchase the fight. They would have to believe that it was a fair fight in which McGregor had a chance of winning.

Is Mayweather vs. McGregor worth $100 on PPV?

floyd9

By Jeff Aranow: Many boxing fans are hoping that Floyd Mayweather Jr. (49-0, 26 KOs) doesn’t wind up facing MMA fighter Conor McGregor (0-0) this year or ever in a boxing match due to the fight potentially hurting the sport because of it being such a gross mismatch.
