Amir Khan: President of the “Who Needs Him” Club?

khan52By Rob Blakeman: News that Floyd Mayweather is possibly reluctant to fight Amir Khan is hardly a surprise for genuine and true connoisseurs of the game. Who would fight Khan? Would anyone fight him in a realistic attempt to further their career? Let’s look at the facts; Khan has been beaten (badly) by some boxers who were hardly household names. He has also beaten some boxers who were statistically far better than him, Zab Judah, Marcos Maidana, Luis Collazo, etc.

If Khan were to, by some incredible fluke, beat Mayweather, would any of us really and truly believe that he is a better boxer than Mayweather? OF COURSE NOT!! Khan has been flattened inside 90 seconds by a handpicked, C class Club fighter (Prescott) in a massive publicized show in which took place in his own backyard!

Marquez: Khan vs. Mayweather is a good fight

_DSC6430(Photo credit: Esther Lin/Showtime) By Scott Gilfoid: Juan Manuel Marquez says he’d like to see WBA/WBC welterweight champion Floyd Mayweather Jr (47-0, 26 KOs) fight Amir Khan (29-3, 19 KOs) next because he believes it would be a good fight for fans. Mayweather hasn’t said whether he’d be interested in the Khan fight, but he was complimentary of his skills at the post-fight press conference last Saturday night when he was asked by a media member what he thought about the idea of fighting Khan.

“Maybe he’ll [Mayweather] fight with Khan. It’s a good fight,” Marquez said to esnewsreporting.com.

Mayweather responds to Amir Khan’s comments about him being older and slower

_DSC8378(Photo credit: Idris Erba/Mayweather Promotions) By Scott Gilfoid: At the post-fight press conference last night, WBA/WBC welterweight champion Floyd Mayweather Jr (47-0, 26 KOs) was asked to respond to the comments made by former IBF/WBA light welterweight champion Amir Khan about Mayweather being slower, easier to hit and beatable after his 12 round unanimous decision win over Marcos Maidana (35-5, 31 KOs) last night at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Mayweather could have really unloaded on Khan in front of then media by pointing out how he’d been knocked out twice in losses to Breidis Prescott and Danny Garcia without attempting to avenge the defeats, but Mayweather took the high road by mostly complimenting Khan.

Floyd Mayweather Jr. should move his date and fight Amir Khan

floyd000134By Mohammad Malik: We have about 11 weeks left until Floyd Mayweather’s next fight on September 13th. With the date approaching fast, Floyd Mayweather Jr. needs to pick an opponent soon in order to give himself enough time to promote the fight.

Floyd Mayweather Jr. has had the luxury of dictating the terms of his fights for many years now, and it is no secret that the fighters are willing to bend over backwards to get a shot at the No.1 Pound for Pound fighter in the world. Not to mention, the biggest pay check of their career.

Mayweather vs. Khan – we can make that, says Roger M

khan4444By Scott Gilfoid: Roger Mayweather, the uncle/trainer for Floyd Mayweather Jr (46-0, 26 KO’s), says he’s in favor of Mayweather fighting #1 WBC, #3 WBA Amir Khan (29-3, 19 KO’s) in the near future. He sees it as a viable fight to make to make in the future. Khan obviously took him out of contention for the fight by saying he can’t fight in September due to Ramadan. But there’s a chance that Khan can fight Mayweather next year in May unless Khan has some other thing that keeps him from fighting at that time too.

When asked if he’d like the Mayweather-Khan fight, Roger M said “They can make that. They can make that. That’s the whole key to make money. If you got a mother-**** to fight you that’s the number 1 thing.”

Khan’s trainer wants Mayweather fight next May

khan4444By Scott Gilfoid: Virgil Hunter, the trainer for WBC Silver welterweight champion Amir Khan (29-3, 19 KO’s), likes the idea of Khan fighting WBA/WBC welterweight champion Floyd Mayweather Jr. (46-0, 26 KO’s) next year in May rather than later this year because the 27-year-old Khan will be able to get another training camp in between before that time. Hunter thinks Khan will improve with each training camp he gets under his belt with him before facing the 37-year-old Mayweather.

No one from Mayweather’s management has said anything about wanting to fight Khan in May of next year, so Hunter may be longing for something that ultimately never takes place.

Mayweather’s Next Opponent. Why I think it should be Amir Khan

khan84By Gari Jones: On the 13th September 2014 Mayweather is scheduled for another bout at the MGM Grand. His next opponent is still to be named, but you can guarantee whoever gets picked Money Mayweather will sell tickets and PPV’s that will make tens of millions in revenue.

This will be the fourth installment of an agreed six fight deal and looking back at the last three bouts I think it is important that the next opponent still be someone who can offer a challenge to Mayweather’s unbeaten record. Whether you like or dislike Mayweather, there is no doubt that he is right now just head and shoulders above everyone in the division and is pound 4 pound the best fighter in boxing today.

Mayweather doesn’t want Khan fight, says Jeffries

khan66By Chris Williams: While Floyd Mayweather Jr. and his team work on finding a high quality opponent for his next fight on September 13th, former pro Tony Jeffries, who now operates a couple of gyms, believes that Mayweather doesn’t want any part of WBC Silver welterweight champion Amir Khan (29-3, 19 KO’s).

Jeffries, who is from the UK, thinks that Khan has improved his game with his last fight against Luis Collazo, and he sees Khan as being polished enough now to where he would never have lost to the guys that beat him before in Breidis Prescott, Lamont Peterson, and Danny Garcia. But more importantly, Jeffries feels that Khan would give Mayweather a problems with his hand speed.

Mayweather should fight Khan next, not Maidana, says Lampley

khan555By Scott Gilfoid: Floyd Mayweather Jr. (46-0, 26 KO’s) isn’t sure yet whether or not he’ll be facing Marcos Maidana in a rematch on September 13th, but HBO commentator Jim Lampley likes the idea of Mayweather fighting Amir Khan (29-3, 19 KO’s) next rather than a second fight against Maidana. Lampley sees Khan’s style as being a tough one Mayweather to solve. Lampley was impressed with Khan’s recent win over Luis Collazo on May 3rd, and that performance sold Lampley to the idea that Khan would be a tough riddle for Mayweather to try and figure out if a fight between them were to be made.

It’s too bad though that Khan can’t fight Mayweather in September due to Ramadan, because there is absolutely positively no way on Earth that Mayweather is going to get off that date to fight someone who isn’t a pay-per-view fighter in November or December.

Khan: If Floyd fights me, he’ll get the biggest purse of his career

khan67000By Scott Gilfoid: Amir Khan (29-3, 19 KO’s) thinks he’ll be able to draw massive amounts of people to a fight against Floyd Mayweather Jr. (46-0, 26 KO’s) if he moves off his September date to fight him in November or December this year in a pay-per-view. Believe it or not, Khan thinks that Mayweather will get career high purse for the fight if he chooses him.

Khan isn’t a huge attraction in the United States like past Mayweather opponents Saul “Canelo” Alvarez and Miguel Cotto, so the only way that Mayweather could wind up with the biggest purse of his career is if the PPV money from the UK was huge enough to give Mayweather extra money on top of what he’ll be getting from the U.S PPV.

“I really think that if Floyd wants to get the biggest purse of his career, a fight between him and me will make him a lot of money,” Khan said to Boxnation.
