Robert Garcia: We [Maidana] refused 10 ounce gloves, will wear 8 ounce ones

garcia77By Raj Parmar: An interesting tidbit of information came out today regarding the never ending glove dispute saga between Floyd Mayweather Jr (46-0, 26 KO’s) and Marcos Maidana (35-4, 31 KO’s). There had been some confusion in the boxing world regarding whether Maidana would fight Mayweather in 8 ounce Everlast Powerlock gloves (which he fought Floyd with in May) or a bigger 10 ounce version of the gloves.

After the final Mayweather-Maidana press conference was over today, Maidana’s trainer Robert Garcia spoke with reporters about the gloves issue and revealed that Marcos almost had to wear 10 ounce Everlast Powerlock gloves in the rematch with Floyd. After going through some general paperwork regarding the fight recently, Garcia discovered that the paperwork indicated 10 ounce gloves were to be used by each fighter in the fight. This came as a complete shock to Garcia and he immediately did something about it.

Maidana: The rematch benefits me more than Mayweather

Marcos Maidana(Photo credit: Esther Lin/Showtime) By Chris Williams: Last May, Marcos Maidana (35-4, 31 KOs) seemed to surprise Floyd Mayweather Jr (46-0, 26 KOs) with his ferocious attacking style of fighting. Maidana fought well enough in the early part of the fight to lose by a 12 round majority decision.

Mayweather showed his skills and eventually adapted to Maidana’s aggressive style and was able to win a conclusive 12 round decision. This Saturday, Mayweather and Maidana will be fighting again, and Maidana believes the rematch is going to help him more than Mayweather because he now has a working knowledge of Mayweather’s style of fighting.

Mayweather’s 154lb titles won’t be on line for Maidana fight

floyd58544By Chris Williams: Unbeaten boxing superstar Floyd Mayweather Jr (46-0, 26 KOs) will have his WBA/WBC 147 welterweight titles up for grabs for his fight this Saturday against Marcos Maidana (35-4, 31 KOs), but not his WBA/WBC junior middleweight titles, according to Fighthype.com.

There was talk of Mawyeather having both his 147 and 154 pound titles on the line for the Maidana fight so that all the titles could be defended at the same time, but Mayweather didn’t like the idea of defending his 154 pound titles in that manner.
