Weights: Mayweather 146.5, Maidana 146

_DSC2192(Photo credit: Idris Erba/Stephanie Trapp/Mayweather Promotions) By Dan Ambrose: A trim looking WBA/WBC welterweight champion Floyd Mayweather Jr (46-0, 26 KOs) successfully weighed in on Friday in coming in at 146.5 pounds for his title defense on Saturday night against #2 WBA, #3 WBC Marcos Maidana (35-4, 31 KOs) for their “Mayhem” fight on Showtime pay-per-view start at 8 pm ET/5 pm PT at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Maidana surprisingly came in a pound under the limit at 146 pounds. This could mean that he was serious when he said that he planned on coming into the fight at a lower weight than he did last May in their first fight.

Maidana weighed 165 pounds last May and that extra 15 pounds he had over the 150. We could see Maidana bulk up overnight by rehydrating 19-20 pounds, which is what I think he’ll do. A couple of weeks ago before Maidana started cutting weight, he looked like a light heavyweight in training.

Khan to be at Mayweather-Maidana 2 fight on Saturday

khan111By Scott Gilfoid: In what has to be seen as a clear attempt to create interest in a fight between himself and WBA/WBC welterweight champion Floyd Mayweather Jr (46-0, 26 KOs) for early next year, Amir Khan (29-3, 19 KOs) will be at ringside this Saturday night to watch Mayweather’s rematch with slugger Marcos Maidana (35-4, 31 KOs) at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Khan wants to face Mayweather next May, and by showing up and being in the audience on Saturday, Khan is obviously hoping that Showtime will put the camera on him quite often so that the massive amounts of boxing fans that will be watching the fight will get excited about the prospect of him fighting Mayweather next May rather than someone else.

Mayweather predicts Maidana will come in over 160 pounds for fight

_DSC0260(Photo credit: Esther Lin/Showtime) By Dan Ambrose: Marcos Maidana (35-4, 31 KOs) and his trainer Robert Garcia have been talking about how he plans on coming into this Saturday’s rematch against WBA/WBC welterweight champion Floyd Mayweather Jr (46-0, 26 KOs) below 160 pounds, but Mayweather thinks Maidana will be once again weighing well over 160 pounds when he gets inside the ring with him.

Maidana, who probably should be fighting in the junior middleweight division at this point in his career, weighed in sat 165 pounds the night of the fight last May against Mayweather. Maidana had rehydrated almost 20 pounds after making weight at 147.

Maidana blames his high weight on him having had only 5 weeks to train for the fight. However, Maidana weighed 165 for his fight against Adrien Broner last December as well, and he had a full 9 weeks to train for that fight and he still came in close to 170.

maidana566By Raj Parmar: The third episode of All Access: Mayweather-Maidana premiered yesterday at the Beachers Madhouse at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas. A few interesting items were included in the show that reveals what is going on inside each of the fighter’s camps.

The episode started off with former Maidana strength and conditioning trainer Alex Ariza showing up to Floyd’s training camp to watch him train. Mayweather claimed Maidana is overweight in the mid 160’s with the fight at that point still a week away, and he should have kept Ariza in order to get the weight down.

Robert Garcia wants Maidana to fight Mayweather a third time if he beats him rather than facing Pacquiao

_DSC0118(Photo credit: Esther Lin/Showtime) By Chris Williams: If trainer Robert Garcia gets his way his fighter Marcos Maidana (35-4, 31 KOs) will look to face Floyd Mayweather Jr (46-0, 26 KOs) a third time if Maidana defeats him this Saturday night rather than to move forward and fight WBO welterweight champion Manny Pacquiao in a unification match.

Garcia rates Mayweather as a better fighter than Pacquiao, and he believes he’s the bigger fight than fighting the 35-year-old Pacquiao.

The Maidana rematch will Be easy pickings for Floyd

Floyd Mayweather and Marcos Maidana(Photo credit: Esther Lin/Showtime) By Chester Rivers: In preparation for Saturday night rematch between Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Marcos Maidana, I watched the original fight with my mute button turned on. I turned on my mute so I could concentrate on the action instead of being influenced by the commentary. After watching the replay, I have come to the conclusion that Saturday night will be easy pickings for Floyd.

Like many of you I originally thought that Maidana gave Floyd one of his toughest fights ever. I have to admit that I was somewhat swayed by the enthusiasm of the commentators admiration of Maidana’s efforts but with the mute button on that is no longer the case.

Mayweather: I need a knockout to make a statement

Floyd Mayweather(Photo credit: Esther Lin/Showtime) By Allan Fox: This time WBA/WBC welterweight champion Floyd Mayweather Jr (46-0, 26 KOs) isn’t going to be content with just going out looking to win by a decision in his rematch against Marcos Maidana (35-4, 31 KOs).

Mayweather wants to score a knockout this time because he feels like that’s the best way for him to make a statement in this fight and show boxing fans the difference between him and Maidana. Mayweather wants to leave Maidana on the canvas and not able to answer the 10 count.
