By Chris Williams: Marcos Maidana’s trainer Robert Garcia is predicting that WBA/WBC welterweight champion Floyd Mayweather Jr (46-0, 26 KOs) will be complaining to the referee Kenny Bayless all night long this Saturday night about Maidana’s fighting tactics in the Mayweather-Maidana rematch on Showtime PPV.

Garcia sees Mayweather taking his case to Bayless every starts getting the worst of it or when he gets fouled.

“He’s going to cry to Kenny Bayless. He’s worked like 4 Mayweather fights,” Garcia said.
Brandon Rios: “Kenny Bayless is going to be like ‘Stop it.’”

Garcia: “Break. Break. Break. Anytime you [Maidana] find your rhythm.”
Maidana: “Oh yeah?”

You can’t blame Mayweather for wanting the fouling from Maidana to be controlled for the rematch on Saturday. Mayweather’s just looking for an even playing field that’s all. If Maidana is roughing him up with low blows, rabbit punches, elbows, head-butts, knees, holding and tackling him, you can understand perfectly why Mayweather would want Bayless to step in and gain some kind of control over the fight. Mayweather is fighting a boxing match, not an MMA type match.

The referee that worked the previous fight Tony Weeks didn’t do much to control the fouling from Maidana, and because of that Mayweather ended up taking a lot of punishment. Weeks won’t be involved in this fight on Saturday, but we’re not sure whether Bayless will be any different. If not, then Mayweather is going to need to stay out of the way of Maidana to keep from getting roughed up again if that’s the kind of fight that he’s going to be employing.

I would have to expect Maidana to fight the same way he did the last time he faced Mayweather, because that’s how Maidana has fought in his last two fights. It obviously worked for him so why would he want to depart from it. The only thing that could keep Maidana from fighting like that is Bayless, and we’re not sure he’ll be assertive or not in limiting what Maidana does in terms of rough stuff.
