By Jim Dower: World Boxing Council President Mauricio Sulaiman wants Saul Canelo Alvarez and Gennady Golovkin to sit down and reach an agreement to complete the negotiations for their rematch. Canelo has the power to make the fight happen. If he gives Golovkin the 50-50 deal he’s asking for, then the deal can be done.
By Sean Jones: WBC president Mauricio Sulaiman let Gennady Golovkin know on Tuesday that if he doesn’t agree to fight Saul Canelo Alvarez in a rematch than the World Boxing Council will order him to take on interim WBC 160lb champion Jermall Charlo (27-0, 21 KOs).
By Sean Jones: WBC president Mauricio Sulaiman is asking Gennady Golovkin to stay in negotiations with Saul Canelo Alvarez and sign the contract for the September 15 fight. Sulaiman doesn’t think Golovkin should walk away from the negotiations just because of the money. However, if GGG does decide not to take the fight with Canelo, then Sulaiman says he’s going to order him to defend against his WBC mandatory challenger Jermall Charlo (27-0, 21 KOs).

By Dan Ambrose: In a surprising development, the World Boxing Council has removed popular Golden Boy star Saul Canelo Alvarez from their middleweight rankings without an explanation. It’s thought by some that the WBC chose to remove the 27-year-old Canelo, who is currently suspended by the Nevada State Athletic Commission for testing positive for clenbuterol, because he hasn’t agreed to sign with their Clean Boxing Program.
