Image: WBC president discusses Wilder vs. Szpilka fight(Photo credit: Stephanie Trapp/SHOWTIME®) By Scott Gilfoid: WBC president Mauricio Sulaiman believes that heart rather than size will play a big factor in the clash this Saturday night between WBC heavyweight champion Deontay “Bronze Bomber” Wilder (35-0, 34 KOs) and Artur Szpilka (20-1, 15 KOs) at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York.

The 6’7” Wilder will have a four-inch height advantage and a six-inch reach advantage over the 6’3” Szpilka when the two of them start trading blows in front of the fans. The weight of the fighters will be pretty much even with both guys coming in around 230lbs; although Szpilka will be a heck of a lot stockier than the trim Deontay.

Mayweather demoted to WBC Emeritus Champion

floyd3By Allan Fox: The World Boxing Council has finally made a move and demoted Floyd Mayweather Jr. (49-0, 26 KOs) to WBC “Emeritus” 147 and 154lb champion. The WBC met for their Emanuel convention, and made the move in vacating the 38-year-old Mayweather’s two titles with the organization.

Mayweather gave the WBC no choice but to make the move after he said he was retiring and not coming back to the sport after his farewell fight against Andre Berto on September 12th.

Deontay Wilder vs. Wladimir Klitschko is one of the biggest fights in boxing, says Sulaiman

1-WILDERvsMOLINA-06132015-5120By Scott Gilfoid: WBC President Mauricio Sulaiman is looking forward in great anticipation to a heavyweight unification fight in the near future between WBC heavyweight champion Deontay Wilder (34-0, 33 KOs) and IBF/IBO/WBA/WBO heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko (64-3, 53 KOs).

Sulaiman believes the Klitschko-Wilder fight could take place by 2017. Wladimir and Deontay both have a lot to do before then. Wilder has a title defense coming against former WBA heavyweight belt holder Alexander Povetkin next year, as well as a voluntary defense on September 26th.
