Martin Murray wants rematch against Sergio Martinez

murray64By Scott Gilfoid: #4 WBC Martin Murray (27-1-1, 12 KO’s) will be fighting for the vacant WBC Silver middleweight strap against fringe contender Max Bursak (29-2-1, 12 KO’s) on June 21st this month at the Casino de Monte Carlo Salle Medecin, Monte Carlo, Monaco.

If the 31-year-old Murray wins the Silver strap, he feels like he should get another crack at WBC middleweight champion Sergio Martinez or get a fight against Miguel Cotto if he comes out victorious in the Cotto-Martinez fight this Saturday night at Madison Square Garden in New York.

Martin Murray: I expect Froch to beat Groves

froch95By Scott Gilfoid: #4 WBC, #5 IBF, #13 WBO middleweight contender Martin Murray thinks that IBF/WBA super middleweight champion Carl Froch (32-2, 23 KO’s) will come out on top in his fight on Saturday night against George Groves (19-1, 15 KO’s). Murray, who failed in his own title shot last year against WBC middleweight champion Sergio Martinez, thinks that the 36-year-old Froch has enough left in the tank to defeat the 26-year-old Groves despite Froch’s advanced age. But Murray sees it as a fight that will be a close one.

“I’d be there, except it will mess with my preparation. I expect Frochie to win. He’s been in a lot of wars and the last fight was his worst performance. But I think he’s still got a big fight in him and will be well up for it. He’ll be looking to put it straight. I reckon it will be a pretty close fight.”

Martin Murray faces Max Bursak on 6/21 in Monte Carlo

murray2By Scott Gilfoid: #4 WBC, #6 IBF, #13 WBO middleweight contender Martin Murray (27-1-1, 12 KO’s) will be fighting #8 WBA Max Bursak (29-2-1, 12 KO’s) in a slight step up fight for the 31-year-old Murray on June 21st in Monte Carlo. Murray is still being taken slowly after his loss to WBC middleweight champion Sergio Martinez, and it seems that they’re going to take the safe route with him after Murray won a controversial 8 round majority decision against journeymen Sergey Khomitsky last December.

In some boxing fans’ eyes, Murray lost that fight. Perhaps a knee jerk reaction, Murray was matched against a little known journeyman named Ishmael Tetteh this past week. Murray won the fight by a 6th round stoppage, but he again failed to impress and looked lost at times when taking head shots against the smaller-looking fighter.

Martin Murray defeats Tetteh, shows little improvement

murray2By Scott Gilfoid: #4 WBC, #6 IBF, #13 WBO, Martin Murray (27-1-1, 12 KO’s) defeated little known journeyman Ishmael Tetteh (29-11-2, 16 KO’s) by a 7th round stoppage on Wednesday night in a less than spectacular performance at the Emperors Palace, Kempton Park, Gauteng, South Africa. Tetteh didn’t come out for the 7th round. However, it’s hard to understand why Tetteh didn’t continue fighting because he was the one landing most of the punches in the fight.

Tetteh and Murray had a bad head clash in the 5th, and it was bad enough to where Tetteh went down on the canvas. It’s possible that Tetteh was still feeling the effects of the head clash in the 6th and that could be a reason he chose not to come out for the 7th.

Martin Murray vs. Ishmael Tetteh this Wednesday, April 23rd in South Africa

murray64 - CopyBy Scott Gilfoid: #4 WBC, #6 IBF, #13 WBO, Martin Murray (26-1-1, 11 KO’s) will be in action this Wednesday against journeyman Ishmael Tetteh (29-10-2, 16 KO’s) in a scheduled 10 round fight at the Emperors Palace, Kempton Park, Gauteng, South Africa. For the 31-year-old Murray this is another rebuilding fight to get him ready for an eventual title shot against WBA middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin at some point in the future.

When Murray will be stepping it up again is hard to say, as Golovkin is a busy fighter and has bigger fights to take than to face someone who was recently beaten by WBC middleweight champion Sergio Martinez.

Martin Murray vs. Ishmael Tetteh on April 23rd

murray53By Scott Gilfoid: After a narrow win over 39-year-old journeyman Sergey Khomitsky last December, #7 IBF Martin Murray (26-1-1, 11 KO’s) will be back in the ring on April 23rd of this month to fight journeyman Ishmael Tetteh (29-10-2, 16 KO’s at the Emperors Palace, Kempton Park, Gauteng, South Africa, according to promoter Rodney Berman’s twitter. It’s hard to understand why Murray would want to fight someone with a record like Tetteh, especially when Murray just finished fighting another journeyman in Khomitsky last December.

I’ve heard of taking it easy, but Murray is really going overboard here with the soft opponents. All I can think is that Murray is being very, very careful with his career now that he lost to WBC middleweight champion Sergio Martinez last year.

Martin Murray to sign with Matchroom within the month

murray66By Daven: It really was a strange 2013 for two time world middleweight challenger Martin Murray (26-1-1, 11 KO’s). The year started as promising as he could have hoped for. Taking Sergio Martinez to the scorecards in the most hostile of territories is no easy feat; Matthew Macklin and Darren Barker can testify to that and they fought him in USA. Moreover Murray knocked down Sergio three times yet the judges scorecards seemed to ignore this sensational accomplishment, nonetheless Murray’s performance was probably the finest of all British boxers in 2013 when faced with foreign opposition.

One would assume Hatton promotions would have struck whilst the iron was hot following the Argentine affair but this did not occur. For whatever reason several crucial fights fell through. A fight with Garth Wood was made official only for the fight to be scrapped through no fault of Murray’s.

Prediction: Martin Murray to win world title

murray53By Stephen Davis: So Martin Murray has split from Hatton promotions. After statements from Hatton promotions and from Murray himself via twitter. Hatton stated that Murray had offers on the table from both WBA champ Gennady Golovkin and IBF champ Felix Sturm, again it depends what these offers were, at the moment nobody wants to fight Golovkin and to be honest why would you when your main aim is to win a world title. Golovkin is red hot at the moment.

The offer to fight Sturm may again have been in Germany, Murray has already fought there and held Sturm to a draw and again the money may not have been right. I’m sure Murray has his reasons for not taking these fights at this time.

Martin Murray no longer with Hatton Promotions

murray64By Scott Gilfoid: Hatton Promotions sent out a press statement today saying that middleweight contender Martin Murray (26-1-1, 11 KO’s) and them have parted ways. They say that there were offers for Murray to fight WBA 160 lb champion Gennady Golovkin and/or a rematch against IBF champion Felix Sturm, but Murray wouldn’t pull the trigger to ink a contract with either of them. They felt that those offers were only going to be there for a limited time before these two champions moved on and found other opponents.

It’s unclear who Murray will sign with next, but I wouldn’t be surprised if he signed with Matchroom Sport and ended up being promoted by Eddie Hearn. I seriously doubt Murray will ever accept a fight against Golovkin, because that would be pretty much the equivalent of Murray signing up for a knockout loss. It’s going to be Sturm all the way for Murray in a rematch.

Martin Murray has option of facing Golovkin if he wants it

MARTIN MURRAY will get a third shot at a world middleweight title in the next few months, he just has to decide which option is best for him.

Hatton Promotions currently has two offers on the table, with one offering the St Helens puncher a career best payday.

Both of the options have been secured outside of the United States due to Murray’s past problems in obtaining a visa.

Martin was due to make his American debut in a world title fight with Julio Cesar Chaevz Jr in 2012, but was unable to enter the country.
