Prediction: Martin Murray to win world title

murray53By Stephen Davis: So Martin Murray has split from Hatton promotions. After statements from Hatton promotions and from Murray himself via twitter. Hatton stated that Murray had offers on the table from both WBA champ Gennady Golovkin and IBF champ Felix Sturm, again it depends what these offers were, at the moment nobody wants to fight Golovkin and to be honest why would you when your main aim is to win a world title. Golovkin is red hot at the moment.

The offer to fight Sturm may again have been in Germany, Murray has already fought there and held Sturm to a draw and again the money may not have been right. I’m sure Murray has his reasons for not taking these fights at this time. Maybe this is the right time for Murray to move from Hatton Promotions. If Murray signs for either Eddie Hearn [note: Hearn pulled off getting Darren Barker the fight with Daniel Geale just at the right time in Barker becoming world champion] or Frank Warren, he will have a far better chance of these promoters gaining a world title fight in this country and at the right price.

Remember Martin Murray is the best Middleweight in Britain and holds the WBA interim world championship. He would likely beat the other Briton’s Matthew Mackin, Andy Lee and Barker with ease. I think apart from Golovkin, Murray has the beating of any of the current world champions. He gave both Felix Sturm and Sergio Martinez all kinds of problems and Martinez has been mentioned at some stages as the pound for pound best fighter in the world. Many thought that Murray had done enough to get the decision against Martinez.

Murray has had a frustrating 2013 after the Martinez fight. He was due to fight in Australia at the end of the year only for the fight to fall through. He did look terrible in his last fight winning an eight round decision against Sergey Khomitsky last December, properly due to this and maybe some lack in motivation. Hopefully he can now get his career back on track, win a few fights and then get the world title shot, I personally feel he deserves. As long as boxing politics doesn’t get in the way and Murray can fight regularly. Mark my words by the end of the year Martin Murray will be Middleweight Champion of the world.
