The View From UK Corner: Only Fools and Chisora’s

Image: The View From UK Corner: Only Fools and Chisora’sBy Sean Pollock: Dereck Chisora (14-0) has had a remarkable year. He has gone from relatively unknown heavyweight to a recognized prospect after wins over Danny Williams and Sam Sexton. He won the British heavyweight title in May and then the Commonwealth title in September- both inside the distance. The unbeaten fighter now finds himself in a ‘Rocky-esque’ situation having signed up to fight the number one heavyweight in the world, Wladimir Klitschko (55-3); with view to fighting his brother Vitali Klitschko if he triumphs.

Chisora has to face both Klitschkos if he beats Wladimir, says Warren

By Dan Ambrose: Promoter Frank Warren says the contract for Derek Chisora (14-0, 9 KO’s) vs. IBF/WBO heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko (55-3, 49 KO’s) says that Chisora has to face Vitali Klitschko next if Chisora beats Wladimir. Warren says “It’s in the contract that if he beats Wladimir, then he has to face Vitali next, but he’s got a big job ahead of him first.” You can say that again. Chisora has an almost impossible task ahead of him in trying to beat Wladimir unless Chisora improves a lot in the next two months. He faces Wladimir on December 11th at the SAP-Arena, Mannheim, Baden-Württemberg, Germany, and that’s not a lot of time for Chisora to work on the many flaws in his game.

Wladimir Klitschko interested in fighting Adamek in 2011

By Dan Ambrose: IBF/WBO heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko (55-3, 49 KO’s) will likely be facing Britain’s Derek Chisora (14-0, 9 KO’s) on December 11th in Germany. Chisora is likely to be easily beaten by Klitschko without too many problems. Wladimir would like to fight WBA heavyweight champion David Haye. However, the British heavyweight appears to be in the milking stage with his title and hasn’t shown a whole lot of interest in taking on Wladimir or his brother Vitali Klitschko. Without a lot of interesting heavyweight contenders for Wladimir to fight, he is intrigued with fighting his number #1 ranked WBO challenger Tomasz Adamek (42-1, 27 KO’s) in 2011, that is, if Adamek is willing to fight Wladimir.

Chisora’s trainer says “He [Klitschko] is there for the taking”

By William Mackay: Don Charles, the trainer for British and Commonwealth heavyweight champion Derek Chisora (14-0, 9 KO’s) thinks his fighter Chisora is going to pull off a huge upset of IBF/WBO heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko (55-3, 49 KO’s) on December 11th, if the Chisora-Klitschko fight can be successfully negotiated. In an interview by Paul Foley at Boxrec.com, Charles says “Leon Spinks won the heavyweight title after just eight fights, so why not? Just like Leon, we are going to shock the world.”

Warren thinks Chisora can beat Wladimir Klitschko

Image: Warren thinks Chisora can beat Wladimir KlitschkoBy Sean McDaniel: Frank Warren, the promoter for British and Commonwealth heavyweight champion Derek Chisora (14-0, 9 KO’s), thinks he may be able to win it. In his column at thesun.co.uk, Warren says “Sometimes you must be hold and roll the dice and take a calculated risk. That is the position Britsh heavyweight champ Derek Chisora faces, as he has been offered a fight with Wladimir Klitschko…Not only does Chisora really want a chance, I’m starting to think he can win it.” I’m in agreement with Warren. At first, I didn’t think Chisora could beat Wladimir, but now that I’ve seen Chisora’s last three fights, I think he has an excellent chance of beating the weak-chinned Klitschko.

Chisora and Dimitrenko the leading candidates for Wladimir Klitschko’s next fight

Image: Chisora and Dimitrenko the leading candidates for Wladimir Klitschko's next fightBy Dan Ambrose: IBF/WBO heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko (55-3, 49 KO’s) still hasn’t conclusively decided who he plans on fighting next on December 11th, according to boxing news from Dan Rafael. However, Klitschko has narrowed it down to British/Commonwealth heavyweight champion Derek Chisora (14-0, 9 KO’s) and EBU heavyweight champion Alexander Dimitrenko (30-1, 20 KO’s). Klitschko’s manager Bernd Boente said if Klitschko can’t arrange a fight with either Dimitrenko or Chisora, then they will attempt to put together a fight with 38-year-old former WBC cruiserweight champion Jean Marc Mormeck (35-4, 22 KO’s) of France.

Wladimir Klitschko to fight Derek Chisora on December 11th

Image: Wladimir Klitschko to fight Derek Chisora on December 11thBy Eric Thomas: According to the latest news reports, British and Commonwealth heavyweight champion Derek Chisora (14-0, 9 KO’s) has agreed to fight International Boxing Federation/WBO heavyweight champion Wladimir klitschko (55-3, 49 KO’s) on December 11th. We’re still waiting the official word from Klitschko and Chisora’s promoters, but if this indeed true, this will be an interesting fight for British fans. But it’s not going to be a fight that will thrill boxing fans outside of the UK, because the 26-year-old Chisora has very limited experience against top level heavyweights and is undersized at only 6’1″ compared to the 6’6″ Klitschko. Chisora is like a weak punching version of Lamon Brewster.
