Chisora has to face both Klitschkos if he beats Wladimir, says Warren

By Dan Ambrose: Promoter Frank Warren says the contract for Derek Chisora (14-0, 9 KO’s) vs. IBF/WBO heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko (55-3, 49 KO’s) says that Chisora has to face Vitali Klitschko next if Chisora beats Wladimir. Warren says “It’s in the contract that if he beats Wladimir, then he has to face Vitali next, but he’s got a big job ahead of him first.” You can say that again. Chisora has an almost impossible task ahead of him in trying to beat Wladimir unless Chisora improves a lot in the next two months. He faces Wladimir on December 11th at the SAP-Arena, Mannheim, Baden-Württemberg, Germany, and that’s not a lot of time for Chisora to work on the many flaws in his game.

Some of Chisora’s problems are things he has no control over, such as his limited 6’1″ height, lack of reach, hand speed and big time power. Chisora will be giving up seven inches in reach and he’s not a big puncher like Klitscko. Chisora is more of the type of fighter that needs to take out his opponents with an accumulation of blows. He may have made quick work of 37-year-old Danny Williams in his 2nd round knockout win in May, but that’s not a typical performance by Chisora.

Chisora says “I can’t wait to get into the ring in Germany and smash the living daylights out of Wladimir.” Chisora may get smashed first if he’s not too careful. Wladimir does well against short rounded heavyweights like Chisora, and this could be a huge blowout. Chisora is stepping up a level from the local fighters he’s been feasting on three year pro career to the best fighter in the heavyweight division. Chisora has none of the Olympic credentials that Wladimir possesses. Instead, Chisora was the 2006 ABA Super heavyweight champion, which pales in comparison to an Olympic Gold Medalist. This could be a huge mismatch.

If Chisora can beat Wladimir, then he’s going to get a good paying bout with Vitali Klitschko. That would set up another “revenge of the brother” scenarios. In the past, Wladimir took revenge against Chris Byrd by defeating him by a lopsided 12 round decision after he had stopped Vitali in the 9th round in 2000. Vitali, in turn, defeated both Ross Purity and Corrie Sanders, both of which stopped Wladimir in upset knockout wins.
