Kessler producing more knockouts with new fighting style

kessler#300By Scott Gilfoid: Since WBA super middleweight champion Mikkel Kessler (46-2, 35 KO’s) last fought IBF super middleweight champion Carl Froch (30-2, 22 KO’s) in 2010, he’s changed his fighting style and it’s lead to him having much more power than he had in the past.

Kessler’s left hook and right hand are more formidable weapons now than they were the last time he fought Froch. Kessler expects that style to work well on Froch tomorrow night at the O2 Arena in London, UK.

Kessler said to Sky Sports “I feel like I’ve been working on my technical boxing skills very much for the last two years and that’s why I have stopped my opponents so fast and I feel good this way. I feel l have a new style but better. I think it’s better [more effective] for Carl now.”

Kessler: I’ll retire if I lose to Froch on May 25th

Kessler#14By Scott Gilfoid: Taking a page out of the Carl Froch (30-2, 22 KO’s) playbook, WBA super middleweight champion Mikkel Kessler (46-2, 35 KO’s) is vowing to retire if he loses next month on May 25th to Froch at the O2 Arena in London, UK.

“If I lose, I’m going to quit. If I lose fair and square I am out of here, but I’m not going to lose, I am going to win.”

I have no idea why Kessler would retire if he loses the fight because chances are he could wind up getting royally jobbed much like Andre Dirrell did when he ventured into Froch territory in the UK. Why retire if most of the boxing world feels that you won the fight?

Froch v Kessler – boxing at its mouth watering best!

froch#7By Matty Buckland: Carl Froch v Mikkel Kessler on May 25th has got to be the most anticipated fight in this years boxing calendar. Both fighters are hugely respected around the boxing world and are equally as entertaining to watch. Froch and Kessler both bring something exciting to the ring, whether it is Froch’s heart and desire to succeed no matter what the cost or Kessler’s great skill and experience.

The first fight between the pair was a barn stormer! I am a huge fan of both Froch and Kessler and felt that Kessler just nudged the decision in there first titanic battle even though it was a closely fought contest but felt Kessler’s natural skills prevailed through.

Sauerland: Kessler and Froch are two all-time greats

ward343By Scott Gilfoid: I got a kick out of Kalle Sauerland’s description of WBA super middleweight champion Mikel Kessler (46-2, 35 KO’s) and IBF super middleweight champion Carl Froch (30-2, 22 KO’s) the other day in calling them “All-time greats.” Froch and Kessler will be fighting in a unification bout that could take place on May 25th at the O2 Arena in London, England.

Kalle Sauerland said this about Froch and Kessler: ”Mikkel and Carl are two all-time greats, two future hall-of-famers and they will leave it all in the ring once again.”

I have no doubts that Froch and Kessler will have a war on May 25th, or whenever they fight, but I don’t see Kessler and Froch as “all-time greats,” unless we’ve really lowered the bar for that standard.

Froch frustrated about Kessler not agreeing to the rematch

froch4334By Scott Gilfoid: IBF super middleweight champion Carl Froch (30-2, 22 KO’s) doesn’t understand why WBA super middleweight champion Mikkel Kessler won’t agree to the offer that he and his promoter Eddie Hearn have offered him to come and fight in the UK. Froch wants it to be easy with Kessler saying yes to the fight, but clearly there’s something there that Kessler doesn’t like because he’s agreeing.

Froch said to thisisnottingham.co.uk “I really don’t know what the delay is…Everything is in place for what will be the biggest fight in Britain for the last ten years…if he does pull out, I’ll be phoning him and calling him chicken.”

This is so sad. Froch doesn’t understand why Kessler won’t take the fight. He just doesn’t get it. Obviously the reason Kessler isn’t taking the fight is likely because of a couple of things. A. the cash isn’t good enough.

Kessler gives Froch some hope of a future fight – but not too soon

Image: Kessler gives Froch some hope of a future fight - but not too soonBy Scott Gilfoid: Mikkel Kessler (45-2, 34 KO’s) gave IBF super middleweight champion Carl Froch (30-1, 22 KO’s) a faint glimmer of hope of a possible future fight if the cards work out right among the two fighters. However, there are a lot of things that stand in the way of a Kessler-Froch rematch starting with Kessler’s fight next month against Brian Magee (36-4-1, 25 KO’s) in Denmark, as well as Froch’s mandatory defense of his title against Adonis Stevenson.

Kessler said “Let me take care of business against Magee first.”

Kessler: “Froch doesn’t fight well going backwards”

Image: Kessler: “Froch doesn’t fight well going backwards”Photo: Tom Casino/Showtime – By Scott Gilfoid: The new World Boxing Council (WBC) super middleweight champion Mikkel Kessler (43-2, 32 KO’s) summed up one of the biggest problems that former WBC super middleweight champion Carl Froch (26-1, 20 KO’s) had last night in their Super Six tournament fight in MCH Messecenter Herning, in Herning, Denmark, saying “Froch doesn’t fight well going backwards.” I’m in agreement with that. Froch looked bad in getting backed up against Kessler much of the night, and wasn’t able to punch effectively when backing up and being pressured by Kessler. When the 32-year-old Froch would throw punches backing up, he lacked accuracy and power.
