Froch frustrated about Kessler not agreeing to the rematch

froch4334By Scott Gilfoid: IBF super middleweight champion Carl Froch (30-2, 22 KO’s) doesn’t understand why WBA super middleweight champion Mikkel Kessler won’t agree to the offer that he and his promoter Eddie Hearn have offered him to come and fight in the UK. Froch wants it to be easy with Kessler saying yes to the fight, but clearly there’s something there that Kessler doesn’t like because he’s agreeing.

Froch said to thisisnottingham.co.uk “I really don’t know what the delay is…Everything is in place for what will be the biggest fight in Britain for the last ten years…if he does pull out, I’ll be phoning him and calling him chicken.”

This is so sad. Froch doesn’t understand why Kessler won’t take the fight. He just doesn’t get it. Obviously the reason Kessler isn’t taking the fight is likely because of a couple of things. A. the cash isn’t good enough. Froch and Hearn need to open up their purse strings and sweeten the pot considerably if they want to get a talent like Kessler in the ring. We’re hearing Hearn has offered Kessler 2 million pounds for the fight. That’s probably not going to be good enough.

You’ve got to add to that number and bump it up close to 4 million and I’m sure Kessler will gladly accept it. The way to do that is for Froch and Hearn to forget all about a 50-50 purse split and instead give Kessler more of a 60-40 or 65-35 split of the cash. Whatever split it takes to sweeten the pot, Hearn needs to do it. If I’m Kessler’s promoter, no way would I agree to a measly 2 million pound offer. It’s got to be a lot more than that to get my man over to Nottingham.

B. the other problem is the location for the fight. Froch and Hearn badly want the fight to take place in the UK, and that obviously has Kessler and Kallie Sauerland remembering what happened to the American talent Andre Dirrell when he fought Froch in the UK and the fight went to the scorecards. Dirrell dominated the fight but ended up losing by a 12 round split decision. I’m sure Kessler doesn’t want to be on the receiving end of one of those types of decisions if he were to agree to fight Froch in Nottingham or any place in the UK.
