(Photo credit: Lucas Noonan/Premier Boxing Champions) By Scott Gilfoid: In a sensational performance, former WBC super middleweight champion Anthony Dirrell (28-1-1, 22 KOs) put on a power punching clinic in defeating former two time world title challenger 35-year-old Marco Antonio Rubio (59-8-1, 51 KOs) by one-sided 10 round unanimous decision on Premier Boxing Champions on CBS from the American Bank Center in Corpus Christi, Texas. The final judges’ scores were 100-90, 100-90 and 100-90.
Dirrell looked incredibly talented in teeing off on Rubio with beautiful single power shots to the head. Dirrell did throw some combinations in the fight, but obviously not enough to get the stoppage. That was what was needed for the 30-year-old Dirrell to get a knockout in this fight, because Rubio was able to handle his single pot shots fine. It was when Dirrell threw combinations that Rubio looked troubled.
