mcdonnell2

By Scott Gilfoid: Liborio Solis (25-5-1, 11 KOs) has filed a protest to the World Boxing Association about his controversial 12 round unanimous decision loss to WBA World bantamweight champion Jamie McDonnell (29-2-1, 13 KOs) from earlier this month on November 12 at the Salle des Etoilles in Monte Carlo.

McDonnell appeared to lose the fight in the eyes of a lot of the fans, but the three judges working the fight gave it to McDonnell as follows: 116-112, 115-113 and 117-111. However, even the WBA orders a rematch between McDonnell and Solis, it doesn’t mean the fight will take place.

Luis Ortiz vs. Malik Scott – Official weights

ortiz23

By Scott Gilfoid: Unbeaten highly rated #1 WBA heavyweight contender Luis “King Kong” Ortiz weighed in at 239.5 pounds during Friday’s weigh-in for his fight against the serviceable Malik Scott for Saturday’s fight on HBO World Boxing in Monte Carlo.

Malik (38-2-1, 13 KOs) weighed in at a heavy looking 246.4lbs. What was interesting about the two straightaway was that the 6’4” Malik appeared to be at least one inch taller than Ortiz, and clearly the heavier looking of the two. This suggests that the listed 6’4” height that Ortiz has isn’t legit. He looks no more than 6’3”. That’s not an issue for this fight, of course, because Malik is obviously not in the same class as Ortiz in terms of talent, boxing skills, power and experience, but it might be a problem in the future for the Cuban when he starts facing the giants in the heavyweight division.

Guillermo Rigondeaux vs. Jamie McDonnell possible

Image: Guillermo Rigondeaux vs. Jamie McDonnell possibleBy Scott Gilfoid: A year after having his WBA ‘super’ bantamweight title taken from him by the World Boxing Association for failing to defend it on a frequent enough basis, the talented super bantamweight Guillermo Rigondeaux (16-0, 10 KOs) has been given his title back.

The WBA decided to give it back to Rigondeaux after they stripped it from Carl Frampton, who won the belt last February in beating Scott Quigg in their unification fight. Frampton was subsequently ordered by the WBA to fight Rigondeaux, but he failed to step up to the plate for that fight, so the WBA had to take the strap from him.

McDonnell thinks it’s silly for people to believe Kameda won

Image: McDonnell thinks it’s silly for people to believe Kameda won(Photo credit: Lucas Noonan/Premier Boxing Champions) By Scott Gilfoid: With his second consecutive controversial win over Tomoki Kameda (31-2, 19 KOs) taking place last Sunday, WBA “regular” bantamweight champion Jamie McDonnell (27-2-1, 12 KOs) is finding out that many fans saw the wrong guy get his hand raised in victory at the American Bank Center, in Corpus Christi, Texas, USA.

Instead of acknowledging the boxing fans as being the true judges of who won the fight instead of the three guys that were assigned to the fight, McDonnell is lashing back at the fans, saying it’s “stupid” for them to see the 24-year-old Kameda as having won the fight, because he believes he didn’t win.

Kameda: I think I won the fight

Image: Kameda: I think I won the fight(Photo credit: Lucas Noonan/Premier Boxing Champions) By Scott Gilfoid: #4 WBA Tomoki “El Mexicanito” Kameda (31-2, 19 KOs) is very unhappy with the scoring of his fight yesterday in losing a controversial 12 round unanimous decision to WBA World super bantamweight champion Jamie McDonnell (27-2, 12 KOs) in their rematch at the American Bank Center, in Corpus Christi, Texas, USA. The three judges – Glenn Feldman, Jesse Reyes and Steve Weisfeld – gave the 29-year-old McDonnell the win by the scores of 115-112, 116-111 and 117-111.

The Premier Boxing Champions analysts saw Kameda as the winner despite the fact that he was knocked down in the 12th round, when he slipped on the canvas as he was getting hit. It was a very questionable knockdown, because Kameda clearly slipped when he was getting hit.

Dirrell decisions Rubio in easy win! McDonnell wins again against Kameda

Image: Dirrell decisions Rubio in easy win! McDonnell wins again against Kameda(Photo credit: Lucas Noonan/Premier Boxing Champions) By Scott Bells: Anthony Dirrell (28-1-1, 22 KOs) bounced back from his loss to Badou Jack with an easy win against long faded former world title challenger Marco Antonio Rubio (59-8-1, 51 KOs) on Sunday afternoon in a fight televised by Premier Boxing Champions on CBS at the American Bank Center, Corpus Christi, Texas, USA.

Dirrell showed fast hands, but it really is worrying that he couldn’t put Rubio away – his lack of power really is worrying. Rubio was moving up in weight after being dominated by Gennday Golovkin so this fight was truly exceptional matchmaking from Dirrell’s promoters to make him look good.
