By John F. McKenna (McJack): WBA/WBC/The Ring Super middleweight champion Andre Ward (25-0, 13) demonstrated on Saturday night at the Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City why he is considered one of the elite fighters in boxing. His victory against former World Boxing Council (WBC) super middleweight champion Carl Froch (28-2, 20 KO’s) proved to the boxing world that Ward is head and shoulders above anyone else at 168 pounds.
Froch-Ward
Ward could fight at light heavyweight for next bout
By William Mackay While most boxing fans are assuming that WBA/WBC super middleweight champion Andre Ward (25-0, 13 KO’s) will be fighting his next fight against one of the top super middleweights in the division and or one of the champions like IBF super middleweight champion Lucian Bute, Ward said after his win over Carl Froch last Saturday that he may elect to fight his next fight at light heavyweight against one of the top fighters at that weight.
Froch adds to the British losing streak in 2011
By Scott Gilfoid: It’s been a terrible year for British fighters in 2011. They’ve either been losing or in some cases being held to draws but still going home with no title belt. It all started so well for them at the beginning of the year with David Haye, Amir Khan, Darren Barker, John Murray, Dereck Chisora, Martin Murray, Brian Magee, Ryan Rhodes, Matthew Macklin, Carl Froch and Matthew Hatton giving British fans bragging rights.
Froch could face Bute twice in 2012
Hearn: Froch targeting Bute and Kessler in 2012
By Sean McDaniel: While Carl Froch (28-2, 20 KO’s) may have lost his WBC super middleweight title last night in New Jersey in his 12 round decision loss to the speedy WBA super middleweight champ Andre Ward (25-0, 13 KO’s), Froch hasn’t really changed his plans for 2012. Froch wants to face IBF super middleweight champion Lucian Bute in 2012 to capture his title and then face Mikkel Kessler in a rematch to seek revenge for an earlier loss Froch suffered last year in the Super Six tournament.
Class, Honest and Fact: Gracious In Defeat: Chisora, Froch and Khan
By Alan Fraser: The year 2011 has seen a number of the UK`s top talent being defeated. Heavyweight Derek Chisora (15-2) was “defeated” by Finland’s Robert Helenius. (17-0) Former WBC Super Middle Weight belt holder Carl “The Cobra” Froch (28-2) lost a unanimous decision to the American sensation Andre Ward. (25-0) Fellow Brit Amir Khan (26-2) also lost to American Lamont Peterson (30-1-1) losing his IBF and WBA Light Welter weight belts.
Khan: Andre Ward was fighting on his back foot and moving. Does this mean he was scared?
By William Mackay: Amir Khan watched WBA super middleweight champion Andre Ward’s fight this past weekend against Carl Froch and noted that Ward was moving around and fighting defensively, as he had done a week before in a losing effort against Lamont Peterson. Khan obviously isn’t happy with the stick he received for fighting defensively when Ward thus far hasn’t received much of any criticism for the way he fought.
McCracken: Froch wants to recapture his title
Two judges had Froch winning five rounds against Ward: What fight were they watching?
By Scott Gilfoid: I’m still kind of stunned at how awful two of the judges’ scorecards were last night. How on earth could two of the judges – John Stewart and Craig Metcalfe – give Carl Froch five rounds in against Andre Ward? They scored it officially 115-113 each, while the other judge from the UK John Keane scored it 118-110.
Froch has excellent shot at landing Bute fight next
By William Mackay: Earlier tonight WBA/WBC super middleweight champion Andre Ward (25-0, 13 KO’s) shocked boxing fans by saying that IBF super middleweight champion Lucian Bute (29-0, 24 KO’s) would have to earn a shot against him by beating an A level fighter first. Ward won’t be taking on Bute next despite this being the fight that boxing fans wanted him to take.
