McGuigan: Frampton will beat Martinez in style

frampton2By Scott Gilfoid: Barry McGuigan, the adviser for Carl Frampton (15-0, 10 KO’s), thinks he’s going to have too much talent, skills and fire power for EBU super bantamweight Kiko Martinez (27-3, 19 KO’s) in their fight tonight at the Odyssey Arena in Belfast, Northern Ireland.

McGuigan said to Sky Sports “Frampton is in the best shape of his life, and he’ll win this fight and win it in style. When he [Martinez] gets hit, he’ll get hit hard because Frampton is a tremendous puncher.”

McGuigan is really getting carried away about Frampton and his power and talent. Frampton has decent power, but he’s not a monster in the ring knocking guys out cold with a single shot, let’s be clear on that.

Frampton-Martinez get into a brief argument at weigh-in

By Scott Gilfoid: EBU super bantamweight champion Kiko Martinez and challenger Carl Frampton got into a heated exchange during today’s weigh-in in Belfast, Northern Ireland. After both fighters made the 122 pound weigh-in limit, Martinez, 26, walked up on Frampton and started jawing while waving a flag. It looked pretty contrived to me.

Frampton: The top fighters will notice me if I beat Martinez impressively

frampton3By Scott Gilfoid: Unbeaten Carl Frampton (15-0, 10 KO’s) is hoping the top fighters in the 122 lb. division will take notice of him if he whips EBU super bantamweight champion Kiko Martinez (27-3, 19 KO’s) this Saturday night at the Odyssey Arena, in Belfast, Northern Ireland, United Kingdom.

Frampton, #9 IBF, #8 WBC, believes he’ll be ready to mix it up with the top echelon of the super bantamweight division by 2014 in fights against the likes of Nonito Donairre and Guillermo Rigondeaux.

Frampton said to Sky Sports News “An impressive win could make the boys at the top of the division stand up and take notice.”

Kiko Martinez: Frampton will run and then I’ll KO him

frampton342By Scott Gilfoid: EBU super bantamweight champion Kiko Martinez (27-3, 19 KO’s) expects the younger and inexperienced Carl Frampton (15-0, 10 KO’s) to be running for survival in their fight on February 9th at the Odyssey Arena in Belfast, Northern Ireland. Martinez believes Frampton won’t even try to mix it up with him for fear of getting hurt by something big.

Martinez said to Sky Sports “I feel I will be by knockout…I think Frampton will try to run. I think he’ll box and he won’t go toe-to-toe. I know I’m a lot stronger than him. When I’m in the ring with him, he won’t want to fight me.”

Frampton: I’ll be ready for Donaire and Rigondeaux in 2014

frampton3By Scott Gilfoid: 25-year-old Carl Frampton (15-0, 10 KO’s) figures all he needs is one more year and he’ll be ready to take on WBO super bantamweight champion Nonito Donaire and WBA champ Guillermo Rigondeaux for their titles. I’m not sure what precisely will change in a years’ time for the 5’5” Frampton but he seems to believe he’s going to be good enough to compete with them at that time.

Frampton said to the Sportsmole.co.uk “I’m about a year away from challenging one of those guys [Rigondeaux and Donaire], but anyone else I can take on straight away.”

I think it would be scary to imagine Frampton wondering into the ring with either Rigondeaux or Donaire. Heck, I think Abner Mares, Vic Darchinyan, Wilfredo Vazquez Jr., Ricardo Cardoba, and Victor Terrazaz would all do a number on Frampton.

Frampton-Martinez: Carl will get his first taste of raw power on February 9th

frampton342By Scott Gilfoid: 25-year-old Carl Frampton (15-0, 10 KO’s) will get his first taste of power on February 9th in his title challenge against EBU super middleweight champion Kiko Martinez (27-3, 19 KO’s) at the Oddyssey Arena in Belfast, Northern Ireland.

This is going to be interesting to see how Frampton responds to being on the receiving end of some big power shots instead of being the one dishing it out in his fights against lesser opposition. Martinez is a big step up from the fodder that Frampton has been fighting thus far, although Kiko is still hardly a great fighter.

Frampton-Martinez: Carl faces his first real test

frampton23By Scott Gilfoid: Commonwealth super bantamweight champion Carl Frampton (15-0, 10 KO’s) will be taking his first real test of his four year pro career against EBU super bantamweight champion Kiko Martinez (27-3, 19 KO’s) on February 9th at the Odyssey Arena in Belfast, Northern Ireland.

This is going to be a really tough one for the 25-year-old Frampton because Martinez has power, speed, defensive skills and a huge heart. Martinez has no quit in him and he’s got a really good chin. What this means is that Martinez will be able to take Frampton’s big power shots without any problem, but then he’ll be answering back with his own big shots and I don’t know that Frampton can take a hard shot as of yet.

Martin Rogan added to the Frampton-Martinez fight on February 9th

rogan46356By Scott Gilfoid: 41-year-old heavyweight Martin Rogan (14-3, 7 KO’s) has been added to the Carl Frampton vs. Kiko Martinez fight card on February 9th at the Odyssey Arena in Belfast, Northern Ireland. Rogan hasn’t fought since losing to Tyson Fury by a 5th round knockout last year in April. Rogan still doesn’t have an opponent yet, but I’m not expecting anyone with a pulse. Someone will be dragged out for him to beat up I suppose.

Fury toyed with Rogan, fighting the entire fight from the southpaw stance to capture the vacant Irish heavyweight title. Rogan hasn’t beaten a decent domestic level fighter since defeating Matt Skelton and Audley Harrison back in 2009 and 2008. I’m not talking about quality world class opposition, because Rogan has never done that. I’m talking local level opposition and it’s been ages since Rogan beat any of those guys.

McGuigan: Frampton will beat Martinez

frampton545By Scott Gilfoid: Barry McGuigan, the adviser for unbeaten Commonwealth super bantamweight champion Carl Frampton (15-0, 10 KO’s), is picking him to beat EBU super bantamweight champion Kiko Martinez (27-3, 19 KO’s) on February 9th at the Odyssey Arena in Belfast, Northern Ireland.

McGuigan said on his twitter “Respect what Sergio Martinez says, Kiko will be in great shape and he will be dangerous as long as the fight lasts, but Frampton will win.”

I hope McGuigan doesn’t get too upset when things don’t turn out like he’s planned because I think Frampton is going to take a beating in this fight and suffer his first loss of his career. This is too big of a jump up for the short 5’5” Framtpon, and he’s not ready for that big of a move up in class.

Carl “The Jackal” Frampton v kiko Martinez 9th February

frampton4545By Chris Bax  Unbeaten Carl Frampton’s long awaited fight with EBU super bantamweight champion Kiko Martinez (27-3, 19 KO’s) is going ahead on a bill called “Unfinished business” on February the 9th, featuring a decent undercard this should be a cracking fight and really good show at the Odyssey Arena, in Belfast, Northern Ireland, United Kingdom.

In his last outing, Frampton (15-0, 10 KO’s) blew away former 2 time world champion Steve Molitor in 6 rounds and follows that performance on with another very tough fight for “the jackal”. Now promoted by namesake Sergio, Kiko Martinez, the European champion beaten 3 times in 30 bouts, will provide a very stern test for Frampton but a test I expect him to pass with flying colours.
