Hearn still convinced Andre Ward will come to the UK to fight Froch

Image: Hearn still convinced Andre Ward will come to the UK to fight FrochBy Scott Gilfoid: After last night’s fight, IBF super middleweight champion Carl Froch’s promoter Eddie Hearn was desperately grasping at any possibility that WBA/WBC super middleweight champion Andre Ward (26-0, 14 KO’s) will come over to the UK to fight Froch in the summer in an outdoor stadium in Nottingham. Froch beat Yusaf Mack by a 3rd round knockout last Saturday night, and Hearn was already looking ahead of Froch’s next fight with Lucian Bute in March towards a rematch with Froch.

Hearn said this about Ward during the post-fight press conference: “We’ll have to ask for an exception from the IBF [International Boxing Federation]. Adonis Stevenson [Froch’s IBF mandatory challenger] will have to wait [if the IBF grants the exception].

Hearn: A Khan-Brook fight will be on our terms, not Khan’s

Image: Hearn: A Khan-Brook fight will be on our terms, not Khan'sBy Scott Gilfoid: Matchroom Sport promoter Eddie Hearn is already looking past his fighter Kell Brook’s next fight on January 19th against IBF welterweight champion Devon Alexander (24-1, 13 KO’s) towards a fight between Brook and Amir Khan. Hearn says for a fight between Khan and Brook to take place it’ll have to be his liking.

In other words, Hearn is seeing himself and Brook in the power position by virtue of the IBF 147 pound strap that Brook hasn’t even won yet. Is that silly or what? The chances of Brook beating Alexander are EXTREMELY remote and yet here is Hearn planning a future schedule for Brook that looks past that fight as if it’s already a win on Brook’s record.

Hearn: If the IBF doesn’t let Froch skip Stevenson bout, he’ll vacate

Image: Hearn: If the IBF doesn't let Froch skip Stevenson bout, he'll vacateBy Scott Gilfoid: As many people expected him to do, IBF super middleweight champion Carl Froch (29-2, 21 KO’s) won’t be fighting his IBF mandatory challenger Adonis Stevenson like the International Boxing Federation so ordered Froch to do. Froch is taking an optional defense next against Yusaf Mack (31-4-2, 17 KO’s) on November 17th at the Capital FM Arena, in Nottingham, Nottinghamshire, United Kingdom. After that, Froch wants to take another optional defense this time against former IBF super middleweight champion Lucian Bute next March in Montreal, Canada as part of their contract. But usually champions are only allowed one optional defense followed by a mandatory.

The reason why the sanctioning bodies make champions do this is because if they didn’t some champions might choose to fight bottom feeders over and over again in order to milk their title instead or fighting the top contenders. Froch and Hearn don’t appear to be interested in defending against their mandatory challenger Stevenson, who recently defeated Don George in an IBF 168 pound eliminator bout.

Hearn: Devon Alexander will have no choice but to fight Brook in the UK if I win purse bids

Image: Hearn: Devon Alexander will have no choice but to fight Brook in the UK if I win purse bidsBy Scot Gilfoid: Matchroom Sport promoter Eddie Hearn is counting on being able to win a purse bid to get IBF welterweight champion Devon Alexander over to the UK to fight his fighter #1 IBF mandatory challenger Kell Brook in early 2013. Hearn envisions packing a 12,000 seat stadium in England for a Brook vs. Alexander fight. However, for this to happen Hearn is going to need mighty deep pockets to beat out Alexander’s promotional company Golden Boy Promotions for the purse bid to determine where the fight will take place.

Hearn said to Sky Sports News “If I win the purse bids then Alexander has no choice but to come and fight in England or vacate the title. I know we can easily fill the 12,000 Sheffield Arena and we also have significant domestic and international TV backing.”

Hearn believes that Kell Brook would destroy both Khan and Hatton

Image: Hearn believes that Kell Brook would destroy both Khan and HattonBy Marcus Stewart: British boxing promoter Eddie Hearn stated after Kell Brook’s marvelous performance against the hard Argentine Hector Saldivia that his man would comfortably beat both Amir Khan and Ricky Hatton on a youtube video broadcasted by iFilm London.

I believe Kell would give both of them problems as he is an obvious talent and arguably the best fighter in the UK right now. Nevertheless Khan has proven that he’s a tremendous warrior and genuine contender after becoming a two time world champion in the super lightweight division. Also Ricky Hatton is without a doubt a legend in the sport and a complete monster in the ring.

Hearn: Kell Brook is going to be one of the biggest boxing stars

Image: Hearn: Kell Brook is going to be one of the biggest boxing starsBy Scott Gilfoid: Promoter Eddie Hearn thinks the skies the limit for his young fighter unbeaten Kell Brook (29-0, 19 KO’s) after his 3rd round TKO win over Argentinian Hector Saldivia (41-3, 32 KO’s) to earn the IBF welterweight mandatory position last Saturday night in Sheffield. The win, one of the easiest of Brook’s eight year career, seems to have planted some ideas into Hearn’s head because he’s thinking that IBF welterweight champion Devon Alexander will just give his IBF title up to Brook instead of fighting him.

In addition to that, Hearn is now seeing Brook as a huge boxing star despite the fact that the best fighter he’s ever fought was Carson Jones, who arguably beat him last July. You take that fight outside of the UK and Brook would have a loss on his record in my view.

Hearn thinks Devon Alexander will vacate title and let Kell Brook grab the strap

Image: Hearn thinks Devon Alexander will vacate title and let Kell Brook grab the strapBy Scott Gilfoid: It was both funny and sad to see Eddie Hearn, the promoter for Kell Brook (29-0, 19 KO’s), dreaming up a hoped for scenario where newly crowned IBF welterweight champion Devon Alexander (24-1, 13 KO’s) will vacate his title and then let Hearn’s fighter Brook fight for the vacant IBF strap against whoever. Hearn honestly thinks that Alexander won’t want to fight Brook because he thinks it’ll be too tough a fight for him or it won’t be worth the little money that the fight would bring in if it were staged in the United States.

Hearn said to reporter Kugan Cassius at iFILM London “I wouldn’t be surprised if Devon Alexander relinquished the world title. I don’t believe he’ll be chomping at the bit to fight Kell Brook…That might happen with Jamie McDonnell as well because Leo Santa Cruz [the IBF bantamweight champion] may move up.”

Hearn: Yusaf Mack is not an easy fight for Froch

YouTube video
By Scott Gilfoid: Despite picking a guy out that has been knocked out recently by Glen Johnson and Tavoris Cloud, Mathroom Sport promoter Eddie Hearn insists that light heavyweight Yusaf Mack (31-4-2, 17 KO’s) isn’t an easy fight for his fighter IBF super middleweight champion Carl Froch (29-2, 21 KO’s) in their fight next month on November 17th at the Capital FM Arena, Nottingham, Nottinghamshire, United Kingdom.

It’s one of those things where Hearn has dragged a fighter with a history of having a vulnerable chin down from 175 to fight Froch at 168. The chances of Mack being weakened from the efforts to make 168 are probably pretty high, but I guess that doesn’t mean a whole lot because it’s not as if Mack was meant to be a competitive fight for Froch.

Frampton could fight Mathebula, Ramos or Rafael Marquez next, says Hearn

Image: Frampton could fight Mathebula, Ramos or Rafael Marquez next, says HearnBy Scott Gilfoid: Eddie Hearn, the promoter for Commonwealth and IBF Inter-Continental super bantamweight super bantamweight champion Carl Frampton (15-0, 10 KO’s) wants to put the 25-year-old Frampton in with one of the following fighters for his next fight in January: 37-year-old Rafael Marquez, former WBA World super bantamweight champion Rico Ramos or former IBF super bantamweight champion Jeffrey Mathebula.

If Hearn can get one of those fighters for Frampton, then this fight will be on the same card as former EBU light welterweight champion Paul McCloskey’s next fight in January.

Hearn explains why he rejected Cleverly for Froch

Image: Hearn explains why he rejected Cleverly for FrochBy Scott Gilfoid: IBF super middleweight champion Carl Froch’s promoter Eddie Hearn was recently given an offer by Frank Warren for Froch to fight his guy WBO light heavyweight champion Nathan Cleverly in a fight that would have made Froch and Cleverly a ton of money in the UK. But instead of accepting the big money to fight Cleverly, Hearn turned the fight down and instead of putting Froch in with little known light heavyweight Yusaf Mack on November 17th in Nottingham, England.

Here’s what Hearn had to say about why he said no to the Cleverly-Froch fight in an interview at IFilm London “He seems to have a love affair with Carl Froch, who he mentions in every other sentence. They made us an offer for Carl Froch vs.
