Arce in deep against Donaire on Saturday

Image: Arce in deep against Donaire on SaturdayBy Dan Ambrose: 33-year-old Jorge Arce (61-6-1, 46 KO’s) is a huge underdog for this Saturday’s fight between him and WBO super bantamweight champion Nonito Donaire (30-1, 19 KO’s) on HBO Sports at the Toyota Center in Los Angeles, California. The problem that Arce, 5’4”, has in this fight is threefold. He’s much shorter than the 5’6 ½” Donaire, he’s not as powerful as him and he’s much slower as well. Those are three pretty big areas for Arce to be at a disadvantage in because you don’t like to see a fighter missing all of those ingredients fighting a champion on television.

It tends to make for a bad fight, but that I don’t think this bout was made because it was thought that Arce had a chance to win. Arce appears to have been selected more so for his past accomplishments and because of his popularity among Mexican boxing fans rather than what he’s done lately.

Donaire vs. Arce & Rigondeaux vs. Kratingdaenggym this Saturday, December 15th on HBO

Image: Donaire vs. Arce & Rigondeaux vs. Kratingdaenggym this Saturday, December 15th on HBOBy Chris Williams: This Saturday night WBO super bantamweight champion Nonito Donaire (30-1, 19 KO’s) will be facing old veteran Jorge Arce (61-6-2, 46 KO’s) in a perfect mismatch on HBO at the Toyota Center, in Houston, Texas, USA.

Also on the card in a fight which I feel is a much better one is WBA World super bantamweight champion Guillermo Rigondeaux (11-0, 8 KO’s) defending his title against the tough #3 WBA Poonsawat Kratingdaenggym (48-2, 33 KO’s) in a fight that should give boxing fans a pretty good idea of how good or not so good Rigondeaux is as a fighter.

Arce a good ticket seller, but Donaire will destroy him

Image: Arce a good ticket seller, but Donaire will destroy himBy Chris Williams: Bob Arum of Top Rank has selected a proven ticket seller in 33-year-old Jorge Arce (61-6-2, 46 KO’s) to be the next opponent – read: victim – for WBO super bantamweight champion Nonito Donaire (30-1, 19 KO’s) to destroy on December 15th at the Toyota Center, in Houston, Texas.

Arce is popular among Mexican boxing fans for all of his accomplishments in the past 15 years of his 16 year pro career. Arce has won world titles in four divisions, which unfortunately is becoming easier and easier for fighters to do given all the various title straps available to fighters nowadays.

Donaire-Arce: A bad mismatch

Image: Donaire-Arce: A bad mismatchBy Chris Williams: 5’4″ Jorge Arce (61-6-2, 46 KO’s) is badly out of his element in facing WBO and WBC Diamond super bantamweight champion Nonito Donaire (30-1, 19 KO’s) on December 15th at the Toyota Center in Houston, Texas. Donaire is surprisingly holding onto the 122 lb WBC Diamond strap that he captured in his last fight against 36-year-old Toshiaki Nishioka last October in a sick mismatch.

I figured that Donaire would given up that strap and just focus on defending his World Boxing Organization title, but it looks he wants to keep that belt for some reason. Arce is way out of his class in this fight, not just because he’s an old guy at 33, but mostly due to him not having the size to fight at super bantamweight.

Donaire: Rigondeaux isn’t worth fighting

Image: Donaire: Rigondeaux isn't worth fightingBy Chris Williams: Despite WBA World super bantamweight champion Guillermo Rigondeaux (11-0, 8 KO’s) holding down a world title and being considered one of the best fighters at super bantamweight by hardcore boxing fans it’s still enough to impress WBO super bantamweight champion Nonito Donaire (30-1, 19 KO’s) in being excited about fighting him. Donaire doesn’t feel like Rigondeaux has earned the right to fight him even though he’s a world champion and a two-time former Olympic gold medalist. That’s not enough.

Donaire said to the thekoncretejungle.com “In my opinion, I don’t feel he’s worth it to fight…he needs to do more.”

Donaire-Arce likely to be a massacre, but Rigondeaux vs. Poonsawat will be a good fight

Image: Donaire-Arce likely to be a massacre, but Rigondeaux vs. Poonsawat will be a good fightBy Chris Williams: The December 15th fight between WBO super bantamweight champion Nonito Donaire (30-1, 19 KO’s) and Jorge Arce (61-6-2, 46 KO’s) will likely be massacre with Donaire destroying the undersized, fading Arce at the Toyota Center, in Houston, Texas, USA.

However, Top Rank has done a good job of at least putting one good fight on the card with WBA World super bantamweight champion Guillermo Rigondeaux (11-0, 8 KO’s) facing Poonsawat Kratingdaenggym (48-2, 33 KO’s) in a fight that could be competitive.

Arce vs. Donaire official for 12/15; Rigondeaux-Poonsawat possible for undercard

Image: Arce vs. Donaire official for 12/15; Rigondeaux-Poonsawat possible for undercardBy Chris Williams: Dan Rafael is reporting on his twitter that the December 15th fight between WBO super bantamweight champion Nonito Donaire (30-1, 19 KO’s) and little 5’4″ Jorge Arce (61-6-2, 46 KO’s) is now official. The fight, which is one of Donaire’s typical mismatches, will take place at the Toyota Center, in Houston, Texas, USA.

It looks like Top Rank promoter Bob Arum is staging it in Texas in order to take advantage of the large Mexican community over there. Arce definitely has more potential to bring in huge numbers of fans to fill an arena than does Donaire at this point in Donaire’s career. Arce a popular fighter in Mexico, whereas Donaire is still pretty much limited to a certain segment of the U.S.

Donaire vs. Arce done for December 15th, says Arum

Image: Donaire vs. Arce done for December 15th, says ArumBy Chris Williams: Top Rank promoter Bob Arum is saying that the December 15th fight between WBO super bantamweight champion Nonito Donaire (30-1, 19 KO’s) and 33-year-old former three division world champion Jorge Arce (61-6-2, 46 KO’s) is done for December 15th. The venue for the fight is still unknown but the fight itself is now done. The fight itself is a mismatch. Arce is well past his prime and should be fighting at flyweight, not super bantamweight. Donaire will knock him out in two or three rounds depending on if Arce comes to just survive or not. Hopefully, Arum will start matching Donaire up against quality fighters after Donaire destroys Arce because this isn’t interesting see Donaire fight old guys over and over again. His last opponent was 36-year-old Toshiaki Nishioki, who Donaire claimed was the best fighter at super bantamweight.

Arum said to the Manila Standard at manilastandardtoday.com/ “It’s a done deal.”

Rigondeaux to fight on Donaire-Arce undercard on December 15th

Image: Rigondeaux to fight on Donaire-Arce undercard on December 15thBy Chris Williams: WBA World super bantamweight champion Guillermo Rigondeaux (11-0, 8 KO’s) may be having little luck in getting a fight against WBO super bantamweight champion Nonito Donaire despite being with the same promotional company Top Rank, but Rigondeaux will at least have the opportunity to fight on the undercard of Donaire’s mismatch against Jorge Arce on December 15th at a still to be determined venue, according to Dan Rafael.

He says that Bob Arum of Top Rank said he’s in the process of finalizing the Arce-Donaire fight and that Rigondeaux will be on the undercard. This will be a good thing if Arum finds Rigondeaux a good opponent that’s well known.
