By Scott Gilfoid: Last month the Dirrell brothers, Andre (20-1, 14 KO’s) and Anthony (24-0, 21 KO’s), showed that they’re the class of the super middleweight division with a pair of impressive knockout wins over stiff competition. Andre, 28, destroyed Darryl Cunningham by a highlight reel 2nd round TKO on December 30th on SHOWTIME, while younger brother Anthony was almost equally impressive in blowing out No.3 ranked World Boxing Council contender Renan St. Juste by a 4th round TKO on December 2nd.

Up until last weekend, the belt belonged to Carl Froch, not anymore after Ward handed him a 12 round decision loss.

By Scott Gilfoid: Now that Carl Froch has been relegated to the slag heap, WBA/WBC super middleweight champion Andre Ward (25-0, 13 KO’s) is ready to get down to serious competition in the super middleweight division. IBF super middleweight champion Lucian Bute (29-0, 24 Ko’s) would seem like the ideal next fight for Ward, but he said yesterday that he wants to wait until Bute has finally proven himself by facing an A level fighter before he’ll waste time on him. Showtime will no doubt work hard in trying to convince Ward to the fight with Bute because this is the fight that they’ve been waiting for.

The WBC title was recently won by Kessler in his 12 round unanimous decision win over Carl Froch (26-1, 20 KO’s) in April.
