Dirrell vs. Ward & Abraham vs. Froch to take place on November 27th

Image: Dirrell vs. Ward & Abraham vs. Froch to take place on November 27thBy Scott Gilfoid: The Super Six semifinal match-ups between Andre Ward vs. Andre Dirrell, and Carl Froch vs. Arthur Abraham will be taking place on November 27th, according to boxing news from ESPN. It appears that Dirrell and Ward’s management teams have gotten beyond their impasse and found a neutral location for their Super Six tournament fight. One great benefit of both fights taking place on the same night is that they will be shown as a “split continent doubleheader,” meaning that boxing fans will be able to see the bouts back to back without waiting for later in the day.

Dirrell vs. Ward – No fight this Saturday

Image: Dirrell vs. Ward – No fight this SaturdayBy Scott Gilfoid: The talented Americans Andre Ward (22-0, 13 KO’s) and Andre Dirrell (19-1, 13 KO’s) were supposed to be fighting this Saturday in their semifinal Super Six tournament fight to decide who would be facing the winner of the Carl Froch vs. Arthur Abraham semifinal match. However, Ward and Dirrell’s promoters have been able to agree on a venue for this exciting fight. As such, we still don’t know when the Ward-Dirrell fight will be taking place.

Showtime reportedly served legal papers to both Dirrell and Ward’s management team and are insistent that the fight still take place. It is hoped that the bout can happen next month in October. It would be unthinkable if this fight weren’t to take place because the winner of this fight is likely going to be the eventual Super Six winner. I mean there’s still the Froch-Abraham fight that needs to take place, but Dirrell already pretty handled both of those guys and Ward would likely do the same thing if given the chance.

Easy fix for the Super Six, if you can wait

Image: Easy fix for the Super Six, if you can waitBy Matt Muranaka: Before you read on, I like to write my articles to have a little debate in the responses. I’ll lay down what I know so far, and some possible scenarios that i thought of on the spot. You are entitled to your opinion, and I respect all comments. Enjoy the article.

Showtime has ran into devastating problems as of late. With such great promise to boxing fans when announced back in July of 2009, it was a tournament that we hope brought exciting fights, great match ups in all stages, bring new fans to boxing, and add in a fresh breath of boxing goodness.

Has The Ship Of The Super-Six Sunk?

Image: Has The Ship Of The Super-Six Sunk?By Joseph “The Mad Boxing Genius” Torres: When Showtime’s Super-Six tournament was first announced, it was more than just a tournament. It meant different things to different people.

For fighters like Andre Ward and Andre Dirrell, it was a chance to make a statement. They were no longer boys in a man’s game but men who are forces to be reckoned with. For men like Carl Froch and Arthur Abraham, it was their time for them to have all of the hard work they did in Europe to pay off in America. And then there was Mikkel Kessler and Jermain Taylor who wanted to re-establish themselves (after some heartbreaking losses) as the very best that boxing had to offer.

Dirrell can win both the WBA & WBC titles if he beats Ward

Image: Dirrell can win both the WBA & WBC titles if he beats WardBy Scott Gilfoid: Andre Dirrell (19-1, 13 KO’s) has a big opportunity to capture both the WBA and WBC super middleweight titles against fellow American World Boxing Association super middleweight champion Andre Ward (22-0, 13 KO’s ) in their next Super Six tournament fight. The fight doesn’t have a venue or date, although it’s still technically on schedule for September 25th of this month. Dirrell, 26, is facing easily the best opponent for him in the entire Super Six tournament.

Dirrell says Ward fight is “Just Postponed, not off”

Image: Dirrell says Ward fight is "Just Postponed, not off"By Scott Gilfoid: For boxing fans wondering about whether Andre Ward (22-0, 13 KO’s) and Andre Dirrell (19-1, 13 Ko’s) were going to be dropping out of the Super Six tournament. Dirrell, 26, had this to say in response to Dan Rafael on his Twitter page, “Just postponed as I know, not off.” Dirrell, of course, is talking about his scheduled September 25th Super Six tournament bout against Ward, a fight which they still don’t have a venue for after all this time. The venue has been the main sticking point in arranging the fight. Dirrell already has fought once in a foreign country and he lost a controversial decision to Carl Froch in Dirrell’s first fight of the Super Six tourney.

Can the Super Six format help save Boxing?

Image: Can the Super Six format help save Boxing?by Ronnie Jordan: Possibly the most popular decision in recent boxing history was to make the Showtime Super Six tournament, a reality. It’s so far widely regarded by fans, boxers and promoters alike as a huge success and has even been suggested as the future blue print for other weight classes. Having just watched the seventh installment of the entertaining and well made 360 super six documentaries, it’s reminded me why I love it so much. It’s completely changed the process of fight making and has generated opinion as of what direction the sport should head in. First off we should appreciate the fact they got five different promoters to agree to the terms. In the current climate that’s not only unlikely but bordering on impossible. Although there have been a few stumbling blocks it’s generally gone smoothly.

Dirrell vs. Ward: Still no word about when/if this fight will happen

Image: Dirrell vs. Ward: Still no word about when/if this fight will happenBy Scott Gilfoid: The Super Six bout between Andre Dirrell (19-1, 13 KO’s) and Andre Ward (22-0, 13 KO’s) is supposed to take place on September 25th at a still to be determined location. Unfortunately, neither of these two talented fighter’s promoters can agree to a venue for this fight and it’s now looking unlikely that the bout will go ahead for 9/25 unless Showtime can intervene and figure out a suitable venue for the fight. Dirrell and his team wants it to take place in Detroit, Michigan, and Ward and his team want it to take place in Oakland, California. If Dirrell and Ward pull out of the Super Six tournament, then the tourney is finished.

The Super Six tourney didn’t really lose much in Kessler and Green’s departure

Image: The Super Six tourney didn't really lose much in Kessler and Green's departureBy Scott Gilfoid: There’s been a lot of people bellyaching about the loss of WBC super middleweight champion Mikkel Kessler and Allan Green from the Super Six tournament this week, but I don’t see it as being a big deal. Let’s be real here. Kessler and Green had very little chance of winning the Super Six tournament. I do think Kessler had a good chance of making it into the semifinals if he didn’t break apart under the big power and speed of Green. However, once Kessler got there, chances are high that he’d meet up with either Andre Dirrell or Andre Ward and then get beaten black and blue. That would have almost certainly been the end of the line for Kessler, so it really doesn’t matter much that he’s pulled out of the tournament.
