By Ronald Peter: After Olympic gold medalist Andre Ward’s (22-0 13 KO) 2 dominating performances in the Super 6 tournament over Kessler and Green it became obvious that it will be up to him to carry America’s boxing future for the next decade. When Olympic bronze medalist Andre Dirrell (19-1 13 KO) went to Nottingham and gave Carl Froch all he could handle in a controversial SD loss, then in Detroit he put on a performance of a life time before his DQ win over Arthur Abraham.

This set them on a collision course that could have decided who would be America’s poster boy for the future, it also had most boxing fans thinking Hopkins vs Jones jr 1993. This fight had all the making of a classic bout with money, stardom and respect on the line or it could have been a complete dud, as most knowledgeable boxing fans have realized sometimes when you have 2 top skilled boxers you get a very cautious and boring fight. With this fight canceled we will have to wait patiently as Andre Ward is looking for a new opponent and Andre Dirrell is not medically cleared to fight.

In the mean time WBO champion Timothy Bradley (26-0 11 KO) has finally signed the contract for a bout with WBC and IBF champion Devon Alexander (21-0 11 KO) for January 29 2011 in Miami, Florida. This fight has very exciting implications with winner most likely getting a shot at the Amir Khan vs. Marcos Maidana highly anticipated bout, who ever prevails from HBO’s proposed 140 pound tourney would have the boxing world at their feet. With Floyd Mayweather only fighting once a year this could set up a Super Fight for late 2011 or early 2012. The winner would also have the option of a Manny Pacquiao showdown, Pacman has stated he only wants a few more times and this would be a perfect way to end his career by going out against a top young fighter that hopefully by that time has reached superstar status.
