DeGale vs. Dirrell

(Photo credit: Carly Gillis Photography) By Scott Gilfoid: Trainer Adam Booth believes that the talented Andre Dirrell (24-1, 16 KOs) should be considered the favorite for Saturday night against James DeGale (20-1, 14 KOs) in their fight for the vacant IBF super middleweight title at the Agganis Arena, in Boston, Massachusetts, USA.

The fight, which will be televised on NBC on Premier Boxing Champions, pits two southpaws with slick fighting styles. The main difference between them, besides age, is Dirrell’s superior hand speed, mobility, defensive skills, power and experience. DeGale has youth on his side, as he’s two years younger than Dirrell. That obviously isn’t a huge gap in age, which is why I don’t see it as being an asset for DeGale.

Dirrell and DeGale will be fighting for the vacant IBF super middleweight title that was recently abandoned by Carl Froch.

If the fight goes the full 12, DeGale will take a lot of punishment and will have to pay, Dirrell says.

It’s hard to doubt a fighter like Dirrell because if you watched his last fight against Derek Edwards last December, you’ll have noticed how much awful punishment Edwards took in that fight.
