Froch says he won’t fight DeGale if he beats Dirrell on Saturday

froch#2By Scott Gilfoid: Former IBF/WBA 168lb strap holder Carl Froch (33-2, 24 KOs) has categorically ruled out a fight against Britain’s James DeGale (20-1, 14 KOs) if he somehow gets past #2 IBF Andre Dirrell (24-1, 16 KOs) in their fight this Saturday night for the vacant IBF super middleweight title on Premier Boxing Champions on NBC from the Agganis Arena, in Boston, Massachusetts, USA.

Froch, 37, had recently said that he’d be possibly interested in facing the 29-year-old DeGale if he got past Dirrell, although he felt it would be a very, very tough task for DeGale to do so.

DeGale-Dirrell only 12 days away

direll5566By Scott Gilfoid: The long awaited James DeGale (20-1, 14 KOs) vs. Andre Dirrell (24-1, 16 KO) clash is only 12 days away for their fight on May 23rd for Carl Froch’s old IBF super middleweight title at the Agganis Arena, in Boston, Massachusetts, USA.

Froch didn’t want to defend his IBF title against DeGale, so now we have DeGale-Dirrell as a result of that. But even if Froch had defended his title against DeGale and subsequently beat him, Froch would still be staring in the face of Dirrell, a fighter who gave Froch huge problems six years ago in the Super Six tournament in 2009.

DeGale confident he’ll beat Dirrell on May 23rd

dirrell6By Scott Gilfoid: #1 IBF James DeGale (20-1, 14 KOs) currently is ranked higher than the #2 IBF Andre Dirrell (24-1, 16 KOs) ahead of their clash for the vacant IBF super middleweight title next month on May 23rd, but Dirrell is still seen as the favorite by the odds-makers.

They obviously see that Dirrell has the superior experience, hand speed, defense, mobility and power compared to DeGale. Indeed, DeGale is so confident that he’s already looking beyond the Dirrell fight towards fights against the likes of Carl Froch, George Groves, Andre Ward and Arthur Abraham.

Froch says he’s interested in fighting DeGale-Dirrell winner

dirrell-froch12345By Scott Gilfoid: Julio Cesar Chavez Jr’s recent loss to Andrzej Fonfara really sucked the wind out of WBA super middleweight champion Carl Froch’s sails, leaving him with few options for his next fight. Froch (33-2, 24 KOs) had been dreaming of a fight against the 29-year-old Chavez Jr. for some time, as he felt that it was a match-up that would draw a lot of boxing fans in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Believe it or not, Froch and his promoter Eddie Hearn even saw the Chavez Jr. fight as a pay-per-view event, which makes you wonder if they’d been keeping up on the news of Chavez Jr’s career in the past three years. Whatever the case, Froch is now saying that he’s interested in facing the winner of the May 23rd fight between Britain’s James DeGale (20-1, 14 KOs) and American talent Andre Dirrell (24-1, 16 KOs) at the Agganis Arena, in Boston, Massachusetts, USA.
