Ortiz vs. Allen: Dave ready to make Luis look old

ortiz553

By Scott Gilfoid: Heavyweight Dave Allen (9-1-1, 6 KOs) says he’s going to stand right in front of unbeaten Cuban heavyweight Luis “King Kong” Ortiz (26-0, 22 KOs) and take the best that he can give at the start of their fight in a little over a week from now on December 10 at the Manchester Arena in Manchester, England.

I don’t know why the 24-year-old Allen is just going to let Ortiz hit him in the early going. Perhaps he wants to show the Cuban southpaw that he’s a tough guy who can take his best shots. Whatever the reason, I think it’s dumb, dumb and dumb.

David Price vs. Dave Allen possible for October 15

price12

By Scott Gilfoid: British heavyweight David Price (21-3, 18 KO’s) blasted out journeyman Ivica Perkovic (22-31, 17 KOs) in two rounds last Saturday night in Germany on the undercard of the Juergen Braehmer vs. Nathan Cleverly card. Price now is talking about getting back inside the ring in the next two weeks against domestic level fighter Dave Allen (9-1-1, 6 KOs) for the undercard of Tony Bellew vs. BJ Flores card on October 15 at the Echo Arena in Liverpool, UK.

It’s not the fight that the 6’8” Price wants. He’s eager to face unbeaten #1 IBF Joseph Parker in the near future so that he can earn a title shot against IBF heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua. Price isn’t sure if the fight against Parker will happen though.

The final judges’ scores were 100-91, 100-90, 99-91.

Weights: Warrington vs. Hyland & Whyte vs. Allen

whyte8

By Scott Gilfoid: Unbeaten #1 WBC, #5 IBF, #11 WBA featherweight contender Josh Warrington (23-0, 4 KOs) successfully weighed in on Friday for his fight against former world title challenger Patrick Hyland (31-2, 15 KOs) on Saturday night at the First Direct Arena in Leeds. The Warrington vs. Hyland fight is the main event, but I see it as a poor fight for a main event. I like the undercard fight between heavyweight Dillian Whyte and Dave Allen as the far better match-up. I think Whyte has potential champion some day. With Warrington, I don’t think he’ll ever win a world title. He’s too weak of a puncher, and there are too many quality fighters in the division that he fights in.

The 32-year-old Hyland failed to make weight at 128 ¼ pounds. It pretty much doesn’t because the fight isn’t for a world title or any kind of eliminator. If it were a title eliminator, I’d like to think that a better fighter than the non-ranked Hyland could be found to face Warrington. But then again, Warrington is arguably no better than a bottom 15 fringe contender in my opinion.

Whyte vs. Allen = War on Saturday

whyte86

By Scott Gilfoid: Heavyweights Dillian Whyte (17-1, 14 KOs) and Dave Allen (9-0-1, 6 KOs) will be slugging it out on Saturday night in what many boxing fans see as a good old fashioned war at the First Direct Arena in Leeds. Whyte is seen as the prospect with by far the most potential of the two fighters. The only thing we don’t know about the 28-year-old Whyte is whether his surgically repaired left shoulder will return to the form he had before his surgery last December. However, even if Whyte only has partial use of his left shoulder in this fight, he’s expected to win easily.

Allen, 24, claims that he got the better of IBF heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua in sparring in the past. Since Allen is the only one saying this, it’s hard as heck to buy into what he’s saying because he’s looked so mediocre in his 10 fights at the pro level.

Dillian Whyte vs. Dave Allen this Saturday

whyte6

By Scott Gilfoid: This Saturday night on July 30, British heavyweight Dillian Whyte (17-1, 14 KOs) will be facing unbeaten but totally untested 24-year-old Dave Allen (9-0-1, 6 KOs) for the vacant WBC International heavyweight title at the First Direct Arena, in Leeds. These two heavyweights have a lot of bad blood between them due to the trash talking that they’ve done.

On Saturday, they can finally settle things once and for ll to determine which of the two is better. Whyte, 28, is widely considered to be the far better of the two. However, Whyte’s recent shoulder surgery on his left shoulder has left him essentially a one-armed fighter since coming back from surgery last June against Ivica Bacurin.

Dillian Whyte vs. Dave Allen on July 30

whyte54

By Scott Gilfoid: British heavyweight Dillian Whyte (17-1, 14 KOs) will be facing unbeaten Dave Allen (9-0-1, 6 KOs) in a 12 round fight for the vacant WBC International heavyweight title this month on July 30 on the undercard of the Josh Warrington vs. Patrick Hyland fight card at the First Direct Arena in Leeds.

“After yesterday’s news it looks like everyone wants to fight – Leeds July 30 just got even better – @DillianWhyte v @davidthewhiter1 is on!” said Whyte’s promoter Eddie Hearn on his Twitter.

Allen defeated journeyman Jason Gavern by a fourth round stoppage last March. The fight was surprisingly competitive from start to finish. I got the impression watching it that if the 39-year-old Gavern was three years younger, he would have beaten Allen. That’s how competitive the fight was. Gavern gave Allen all kinds of problems.

Dave Allen won’t fight Dillian Whyte until October

whyte100

By Scott Gilfoid: British domestic level heavyweight Dave Allen (9-0-1, 6 KOs) says that Dillian Whyte (17-1, 14 KOs) is going to need to wait until October before he’ll agree to fight him, because he’s not going to jump inside the ring this month to face him on just three weeks’ notice on July 30 for Whyte’s next fight on the undercard of the Joshua Warrington vs. Patrick Hyland fight card at the First Direct Arena in Leeds.

Whyte needs an opponent for that date, and he’d like nothing better than to fight the 24-year-old Allen. Whyte has also called out former light heavyweight world champion Antonio Tarver for that fight date.

“I’m not going to fight Dillian Whyte on three weeks’ notice when he’s been preparing for the last 10 or 11 weeks for the O2 show. He will have to fight me in October,” Allen said to skysports.com.

Sam Sexton selected by BBBofC to fight for British title

sexton343

By Jeff Aranow: The British Boxing Board of Control (BBBofC) has rejected the idea of unbeaten Dave Allen (9-0-1, 6 KOs) fighting for the vacant British heavyweight title later this year. They see the 24-year-old Allen as lacking in experience right now for him to be challenging for the British belt. Instead, the Boxing Board has selected 31-year-old Sam Sexton (22-3, 8 KOs) to fight for the British title.

Sexton will be facing Dillian Whyte (16-1, 13 KOs). Sexton has won his last seven fights since going through a rough patch with his career in getting knocked out by David Price by a 4th round knockout in May 2012, and Dereck Chisora.

Those fights showed Sexton’s limitations as a heavyweight. He wasn’t able to compete with either of those guys. Sexton’s best wins of his career came against Martin Rogan, who he defeated twice in a row in 2009.
