By Scott Gilfoid: WBA World light welterweight champion Ricky Burns (41-5-1, 14 KOs) says he won’t be fighting former four division world champion Adrien Broner (32-2, 24 Kos) until mid-2017. Broner, 27, has a fight on February 11 against contender Adrian Granados (18-4-2, 12 KOs) at a still to be determined venue. That’s not going to be an easy fight for Broner, but he’s still expected to win.
A fight between Burns and Broner would be a nice payday for both of them. It would be a very tough fight for the 33-year-old Burns to win, because he’s not much of a puncher to speak. Broner would likely walk him down and chop him to pieces. Burns was fortunate to win his last fight against #1 WBA Kiryl Relikh last October in their fight at the SSE Hydro in Glasgow, Scotland.

By Scott Gilfoid: WBO lightweight champion Ricky Burns (35-2, 10 KO’s) is still floating WBC lightweight champion Adrien Broner’s name as a potential future opponent despite having turned down the fight three times in the past. Broner has been trying to get a fight with Burns for close to two years, but with no luck. Tired of wasting his time trying to get a fight against a reluctant Burns, Broner is moving up to welterweight to face WBA champion Paulie Malignaggi on June 22nd.

While Hearns thinks Burns would take the fight with Broner, he has doubts whether Burns’ people will let Burns face Broner because of how difficult a fight it would be for Burns.

By Scott Gilfoid: Well, I knew it would happen. WBO lightweight champion Ricky Burns (35-2, 10 KO’s) won’t be fighting WBC lightweight champion Adrien Broner (25-0, 21 KO’s) anytime soon, if ever. Burns’ promoter Alex Morrison says that Burns isn’t ready to take on a fighter like the talented 23-year-old Broner at this point.
