Kell Brook vs Shawn Porter(Photo credit: Esther Lin/Showtime) By Cameron Gillon: Last night at the StubHub Center in Carson, California. Kell Brook defeated ‘Showtime’ Shawn Porter to win the IBF welterweight championship in a 12 round majority decision, one judge scored the bought a 114-114 draw whilst that was overruled by scores of 117-111 and 116-112 in Brook’s favor.

Before the bout, Keith Thurman was spotted at ringside and was given a interview in which he stated when he would be back fighting and who he would like to fight. Thurman said he plans on being back in the ring in October or November after resting his current shoulder injury, he has been having rehab on the shoulder the past three weeks, Thurman has been out the ring since April after knocking out Julio Diaz in the 4th round. Thurman is one of the bright prospects in the division and boasts a record of 23-0 with 21 knockouts, that is a very very high knockout percentage for a welterweight which makes many fighters have a longer think about fighting Thurman.

Brook tops Porter: Dirrell defeats Bika; Wilder destroys Gavern

brook56By Scott Gilfoid: In a highly controversial decision, Britain’s Kell Brook (33-0, 22 KOs) defeated IBF welterweight champion Shawn Porter (24-1-1, 15 KOs) by a 12 round majority decision on Saturday night at the StubHub Center in Carson, California. The final judges’ scores were 114-114, 117-111, and 116-112. The scores were way off from what happened in the ring. I had Porter winning 11 of the 12 rounds.

Brook was clinching between 10-15 times per round all night long without having points taken away from him. Porter would come in and Brook would grab him almost immediately. The pattern would be repeated as soon as the referee broke the two fighters.

Porter should get a mid-fight KO/TKO of Brook

Kell Brook(Photo credit: Esther Lin/Showtime) By Bob Smith: This could well be the breakout fight for Shawn Porter, and it is a very winnable fight for him if he is at the top of his game. He is a pressure fighter with good boxing skills and remarkable power, and a surprisingly long reach for his compact body.

Porter has also recently defeated two of the best welterweights in the division in Devon Alexander and Paulie Malignaggi. Brook, while a good fighter and while undefeated still, has fought much lower quality opposition, and almost certainly will go down at least once within the first 6 rounds.

By Scott Gilfoid: Amir Khan and Kell Brook (32-0, 22 KOs) may have exchanged insults in the past, but Khan is still hoping that Brook will be winning his fight against IBF welterweight champion Shawn Porter (24-0-1, 15 KOs) tonight at the StubHub Center in Carson, California.

Is Khan giving Brook words of encouragement because he’s a good one or is he doing this because he’s hoping the two of them will get a chance to face each other later on this year in front of 80,000 fans at Wembley Stadium London, UK?

Porter can surge past Thurman with impressive win tonight against Brook

Group Shot(Photo credit: Esther Lin/Showtime) By Raj Parmar: As Shawn Porter (24-0, 15 KO’s) defends his IBF welterweight title tonight against challenger Kell Brook (32-0, 22 KO’s), he will be fighting for more than just the opportunity to remain champion in what is becoming an increasingly crowded welterweight division. He has the opportunity tonight to separate himself from the pack and become one of the elite fighters in the division.

A few months ago Porter and fellow welterweight Keith Thurman (23-0, 21 KO’s) were frequently mentioned together as the top two welterweights on the rise. Both are undefeated, hit with tremendous power and have charismatic personalities. Earlier this year in May during the Floyd Mayweather-Marcos Maidana Pay Per View Event, the two were even interviewed together as the future of the division.

Hearn: Kell will not crumble against Porter

Shawn Porter and Kell Brook(Photo credit: Esther Lin/Showtime) By Scott Gilfoid: Matchroom Sport promoter Eddie Hearn is confident that his fighter Kell Brook (32-0, 22 KOs) won’t freeze and fall apart mentally in the moment tomorrow night when he gets inside the squared circle with IBF welterweight champion Shawn Porter (24-0-1, 15 KOs) at the StubHub Center in Carson, California.

Hearn thinks that Brook get a case of the nerves in this fight because he’s studied him well and he doesn’t see him as the type of fight that will get intimidated by the magnitude of the moment.

DeGale picks Brook to beat Porter

PorterBrookPC_Hoganphotos(Photo credit: Hogan Photos) By Scott Gilfoid: British middleweight James DeGale believes that #1 IBF Kell Brook (32-0, 22 KOs) will be too good for IBF welterweight champion Shawn Porter (24-0-1, 15 Kos) in their fight on Saturday night.

DeGale knows of Porter after having fought him as an amateur in 2007. DeGale had a huge size advantage over him and went on to beat him. As improved as Porter is now since the fighter he was in 2007, it wouldn’t be surprising if he beat DeGale now if that fight were made in the pros.
