Ariza and Roach wasting time trying to get more aggression from Pacquiao

Image: Ariza and Roach wasting time trying to get more aggression from PacquiaoBy Chris Williams: Strength and conditioning coach Alex Ariza and trainer Freddie Roach are trying to extract more aggression from Manny Pacquiao so that he can beat Juan Manuel Marquez by a knockout or at the minimum a decision that can’t be questioned by boxing fans.

It’s pretty pointless really, because the whole idea behind trying to get Pacquiao to be more aggressive really revolves around getting Pacquiao to a more youthful stage in his career when he was able to move well around the ring, throw a lot of punches, and fight with a great deal of intensity. Pacquiao isn’t doing those things anymore. When Pacquiao does fight hard, he gets leg cramps, he tires out, and then he takes punishment.

Ariza sees Guerrero fighting Pacquiao in the near future

Image: Ariza sees Guerrero fighting Pacquiao in the near futureBy Chris Williams: Manny Pacquiao’s personal strength and conditioning coach Alex Ariza believes that Pacquiao will be fighting WBC interim welterweight champion Robert Guerrero (31-1-1, 18 KO’s) in the near future and he thinks Pacquiao will beat him.

Ariza told the Manilastandardtoday.com “The Ghost [would be] a good fight but Manny can handle the guy.”

I don’t know that Pacquiao can. I would have agreed with Ariza before seeing Guerrero fight last Saturday night in beating former IBF/WBC welterweight champion Andre Berto by an easy 12 round decision, but now I’m extremely doubtful that Pacquiao could beat Guerrero because this guy throws a lot of punches and he never stops coming.

Ariza excited about Pacquiao’s foot and hand speed

Image: Ariza excited about Pacquiao's foot and hand speedBy Chris Williams: Alex Ariza is really happy with how Manny Pacquiao (54-4-2, 38 KO’s) has been looking lately in his sparring sessions in getting ready for Juan Manuel Marquez (54-6-1, 39 KO’s) on December 8th. Ariza thinks he’s seeing more foot and hand speed from the soon to be 34-year-old Pacquiao than what he’s seen from him in a long, long time.

Ariza said to the Manilastandardtoday.com “It’s some of the best sparring I’ve seen from Manny and it’s not just the sparring but the movements that he has and I think his hands and his footwork is almost at a different level that I’ve seen in a long time.”

Ariza likes what he sees from Pacquiao in training

Image: Ariza likes what he sees from Pacquiao in trainingBy Chris Williams: Strength and conditioning coach Alex Ariza is trying to get his pupil Manny Pacquiao (54-4-2, 38 KO’s) back to the physical form that he had years ago in getting the soon to be 34-year-old Pacquiao ready for his fourth – and hopefully his last – fight with 39-year-old Juan Manuel Marquez (54-6-1, 39 KO’s) on December 8th at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Ariza told the Manilastandardtoday.com that Pacquiao should “stick to the little things that he plans on doing the next couple of weeks. We should see some big, big changes.”

Ariza sees Pacquiao’s conditioning as key to success in beating Marquez

Image: Ariza sees Pacquiao's conditioning as key to success in beating MarquezBy Chris Williams: Alex Ariza, Manny Pacquiao’s strength and conditioning coach, doesn’t see him being able to learn or change much in his game plan for him to improve much before his fight with 39-year-old Juan Manuel Marquez (54-4-2, 38 KO’s) on December 8th at the MGM Grand, Grand Garden Arena, in Las Vegas, Nevada, USA. Instead, Ariza sees Pacquiao’s conditioning as being the key to beating Marquez (54-6-1, 39 KO’s) this time.

Ariza said to the Manila Standard “Hopefully he recognizes that he has to change some things in his physical conditioning…[Pacquiao and Marquez] “can’t learn very much stylistic-wise…conditioning, strength and executing game plan after getting in shape.”
