Abraham 167.6, Stieglitz 167.3 – Official Weights

abraham545(Photo Credit: Sebastian Heger) By Scott Gilfoid: 35-year-old WBO super middleweight champion Arthur Abraham (42-4, 28 KOs) successfully made weight today, coming in at 167.6 pounds for his title defense against former WBO 168lb champion Robert Stieglitz (47-4-1, 27 KOs) on Saturday night at the Gerry Weber Stadium, Halle, Nordrhein-Westfalen.

Stieglitz weighed in at 167.3lbs. He says he knows how to beat Abraham. The plan will likely revolve around Stieglitz throwing nonstop punches for three minutes of every round. It worked for Stieglitz in his second fight against Abraham in 2013, but it failed last year, when Stieglitz gassed out in the last four rounds and lost a 12 round split decision.

Abraham wants bigger fights after Stieglitz

abraham5555(Photo credit: Sebastian Heger) By Scott Gilfoid: If WBO super middleweight champion Arthur Abraham (42-4 28 KOs) can somehow get past #1 WBO Robert Stieglitz (47-4-1, 27 KOs) in their fourth fight together on July 18th, the Abraham says he wants to look to try and unify the 168lb titles by facing the other champions in his weight class.

Abraham says he doesn’t want to keep fighting Stieglitz. The money has got to be good for Abraham to keep facing Stieglitz over and over again, but it looks like Abraham wants to try and actually accomplish something rather than fighting Stieglitz in endless rematches.

Arthur Abraham not worried about Stieglitz’s power

abraham6(Photo Credit: Sebastian Heger) By Scott Gilfoid: The fourth fight between WBO super middleweight champion Arthur Abraham (42-4, 28 KOs) and former WBO 168lb champ Robert Stieglitz (47-4-1, 27 KOs) is only two and a half weeks away for their fight on July 18th at the Gerry Weber Stadium in Halle, Germany.

Abraham’s trainer Ulli Wegner has been bragging about how Abraham has been dropping bigger cruiserweights left and right during training camp. Wegner doesn’t say who these so-called cruiserweights or, so we’re left having to take what he says at face value rather than being able to see for ourselves or from the cruiserweights about these sparring sessions.

WBO orders Abraham to face Stieglitz again

Stieglitz_Abraham_V6P1926By Scott Gilfoid: The World Boxing Organization is doing WBO super middleweight champion Arthur Abraham a huge favorite by ordering him to face #1 WBO Robert Stieglitz within the next 90 days rather than having Abraham take on an arguably tougher contender like Gilberto Ramirez.

Abraham has already fought Stieglitz three times in back and forth fights that took place in Germany. By the WBO ordering yet another fight between Abraham and Stieglitz, they really did them both a big favor, because if Abraham has to defend his title against one of the younger contenders with talent, he’ll likely lose.

Abraham to face Stieglitz on March 3rd in rubber match

abraham5By Allan Fox: WBO super middleweight champion Robert Stieglitz (46-3, 26 KO’s) will be meeting up with his constant foe Arthur Abraham (38-4, 28 KO’s) in a third fight on March 3rd at the Magdeburg, Sachsen-Anhalt, Germany.

The two German based fighters have already fought twice in the past the last year, but without the World Boxing Organization forcing Abraham and Stieglitz to fight tough opposition after their defeats, they keep facing each other. Stieglitz lost his WBO 168 lb. title last year in a 12 round decision defeat to Abraham in August of 2012.

WBO makes Arthur Abraham mandatory challenger to Stieglitz

abraham434By Allan Fox: Former two division world champion Arthur Abraham’s controversial 12 round unanimous decision over Willbeforce Shihepo this month has earned Abraham the mandatory spot to have WBO super middleweight champion Robert Stieglitz (45-3m 26 KO’s), according to Kalle Sauerland.

This will be the third fight between them, and it’s surprising that the World Boxing Organization isn’t going to force Stieglitz to face #1 WBO George Groves instead of letting #4 WBO, Abraham leap-frog over Groves, as well as #2 WBO, Lucian Bute, and #3 WBO James DeGale.

Abraham could wind up as Stieglitz’s mandatory if he beats Shihepo

abraham434By Scott Gilfoid: Arthur Ahraham (36-4, 28 KO’s), ranked #4 by the World Boxing Organization, could find himself back in the mandatory spot for WBO super middleweight champion Robert Stieglitz if Abraham can get by his next opponent #7 WBO, Willbeforce Shihepo (20-6, 15 KO’s) in their fight on August 24th at the Schwerin, Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, Germany.

Fightnews is reporting that Abraham could land a third fight against Stieglitz if he beats the always tough Shihepo. For this to happen #1 WBO mandatory challenger George Groves will have to bypass his title shot against Stieglitz, which as of now seems likely to happen due to the talk of Groves facing IBF/WBA super middleweight champion Carl Froch in November.

Abraham’s left eye not damaged

abe11By Eric Thomas: Former WBO super middleweight champion Arthur Abraham (36-4, 28 KO’s) got some good news after having his swollen left eye checked out following his 4th round TKO loss to Robert Stieglitz (44-3, 25 KO’s) last Saturday night in Magdeburg, Germany. There is no serious damage to his eye, according to Fightnews.com.

Abraham’s left eye closed up completed in the 3rd round as a result of some heavy shots from Stieglitz. The fight was then halted at the start of the 4th round by advice of the ringside doctor due to Abraham’s eye having closed up. There was a worry initially that Abraham may have sustained bone or eye damage, but luckily he escaped that.

Stieglitz wants to face Abraham again rather than someone else

abe3By Scott Gilfoid: Robert Stieglitz (44-3, 25 KO’s) defeated WBO super middleweight champion Arthur Abraham (36-4, 28 KO’s) tonight by an injured related 4th round stoppage in Magdeburg, Germany, and already Stieglitz – and Abraham – are talking about a third fight with one another rather than looking to fight other guys.

I can understand it from Abraham’s point of view because he was really pounded tonight in getting his left eye closed and beaten up. But for Stieglitz, you’d think he would want to fight someone else for a change instead of just Abraham, but it looks like that’s the safest fight for him and the biggest money fight he can make given that Stieglitz is a German based fighter like him.

Abraham needs to move back down to 160

abe5By Eric Thomas: If we learned anything from watching WBO super middleweight champion Arthur Abraham (36-4, 28 KO’s) get slaughtered tonight by the bigger, stronger, and more talented Robert Stieglitz (44-3, 25 KO’s) it’s that Abraham doesn’t belong fighting in the super middleweight division.

It was proven in the Super Six tournament where Abraham was beaten in three of the four fights he had, and it was proven once again tonight. Abraham simply doesn’t have the height or reach to compete in this weight class.
